Deranged Rhino Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Once you know what to listen for you hear it in everything. Sound guys have weirdly awesome senses of humor.
Azalin Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I learned about the Wilhelm scream several years ago, and once you've heard it and know what it is, you'll be amazed at how often you hear it from then on.
4merper4mer Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Little known fact: The very first time this sound was heard it came from this guy:

The Big Cat Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Spielberg and Lucas the two main perpetrators of squeezing the WS into movies?
Deranged Rhino Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't Spielberg and Lucas the two main perpetrators of squeezing the WS into movies? They (or their sound editors) have used it a lot, absolutely. They probably were most responsible for the cultish use of it today but it predates both of them by a bit. Compared to some of the things on TV and in the cinemas now, they're quite restrained in their usage.

Right?f Obviously it's older than them, but they picked it up and ran with it.

Certainly, them or their editors. Their movies made it cultishly cool and is probably why it's so overdone now. But they had the integrity to use it once per film, nowadays it's once per action sequence.

Beerball Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Yeah, too much of a good thing. Kind of like cowbell. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5SaFTm2bcac you expect me to sit through a 20 minute video about a 6 second drum thingy?
bbb Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I hate that - when Wilhelm is always screaming at Kornheiser on PTI.
ExiledInIllinois Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Compilation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdbYsoEasio I learned about the Wilhelm scream several years ago, and once you've heard it and know what it is, you'll be amazed at how often you hear it from then on. Ya... Also like laugh tracks. Who's that laughing?
Doc Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I think it's in the new Jon Lovitz GoDaddy.com commercials, specifically the one where a shark jumps on top of him and starts slapping him with its fin.
