BuffaloHokie13 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Yes but what if Miami waits the full 7 days to match it and then the Bills are left screwed because the other FA TE's have signed elsewhere CBF There are quite a few contributors out there in FA. If we don't like any of them then there's always the draft
CountDorkula Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 At the same time, if Miami waits that long to make a decision, they also screw themselves in their own search for a replacement. Or they go out and try to get guys to sign for a little less. If they can they just sign Clay. Miami is in a position of power here.
OldTimer1960 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I don't like the idea of an offer being tied up for up to a week while FA is just starting. I'd rather they just pass on Clay and bolster the OL.
Canadian Bills Fan Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 At the same time, if Miami waits that long to make a decision, they also screw themselves in their own search for a replacement. Very good point but not if they know they can and will match it CBF
YoloinOhio Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Yes but what if Miami waits the full 7 days to match it and then the Bills are left screwed because the other FA TE's have signed elsewhere CBF they probably have a contingency plan. Draft, less heralded TE... This is their brass ring but if Miami matches they move on
Canadian Bills Fan Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 they probably have a contingency plan. Draft, less heralded TE... This is their brass ring but if Miami matches they move on So you think its either Clay or nothing in terms of FA TE's? CBF
YoloinOhio Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 Or they go out and try to get guys to sign for a little less. If they can they just sign Clay. Miami is in a position of power here. yep, I fully expect them to take the full 7 days whether they are going to match or not
Canadian Bills Fan Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 yep, I fully expect them to take the full 7 days whether they are going to match or not Great. Sarcasm/ CBF
ricojes Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 If Miami chooses not to match Clay's offer, then Miami will have to sign another TE. So I don't think they'll wait the whole week, they can't afford to themselves as they might miss out on a TE they like.
boyst Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 In bizzaro world Miami gets Lee Smith and we get Charles Clay.
eball Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 In bizzaro world Miami gets Lee Smith and we get Charles Clay. Won't happen; Marrone has already played his "assistant HC" card in Jax and demanded they sign Lee.

YoloinOhio Posted March 10, 2015 Author Posted March 10, 2015 The last transition tag I remember was Alex Mack. Jax signed him to an offer sheet and the Browns matched it. I think they took the whole week. But not sure.
Jobu Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 If Miami is a good chess player they will wait til the last second then match.
Max997 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Yes but what if Miami waits the full 7 days to match it and then the Bills are left screwed because the other FA TE's have signed elsewhere CBF You're assuming the Bills would hv interest in the other free agent TE's which may or may not be accurate Clay is a unique player and isn't a true TE so I'm not sure their interest in him means they are intent on signing a free agent TE
HereComesTheReignAgain Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) Could Buffalo pull the offer at any time while Miami is considering matching? I can't seem to find that answer in any of the searches I've done. If they have that option, they could still work on signing another TE while waiting for Miami to match. Clay would have to sign the offer first...as soon as it's signed Miami is on the clock so to answer....no

If they are going hard after a guy like Clay then they have a specific plan for someone like him. He's more of a hybrid TE/FB who can line up a lot of different ways Mike Garafolo @MikeGarafolo 9h9 hours ago Mentioned on @FOXSportsLive just now I'm not expecting the transition tag to scare the Bills in their pursuit of Dolphins TE Charles Clay.
