NoSaint Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Thats what he looked worst at last year. Im all for keeping him as a backup option, or coach. It's tough to count him out, all I think about is that run against the Bears... He may have lost a step but he's still a man amongst boys. i always hate the "ignore anything good and he doesnt look good" but if you take out that one run.... when looking only at the first 5 weeks when healthy it puts him sub 4.0, and for the season sub 3.5ypc with a long of 17 yards i hate seeing it too, but its not hard to see why the GM and HC may be willing to move another way. and the timing is very nice to fred, honestly, despite the charity function issue. billsfan_34 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 If this is true, I'm not a fan of the start of the Ryan era. Get a piece of trash like RI and gets rid of one of the best leaders on the team. Terrible, terrible, terrible move. I think everyone has a special place in their heart for FJ. The sad reality is the guy has lost that burst he once had. His smarts, leadership, and picking up the blitz are still an invaluable asset. RI is bad but there has been much worse in this league...see Ray Rice and Ray Lewis. What we are witnessing is a change of the guard and is hard for many of us to digest. More wins will make it all better my friend. Cheers!!!
Lurker Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 retire. That still seems extreme to me. We can't judge Fred on his last eight games, when he was clearly playing hurt during a playoff push (and even then, still ahead of Brown on the depth chart). He looked good before the injury (averaging 4.3 ypc) and I'd expect him to have another year like that in the tank for 2015. If it's about being a third down pass blocking specialist, I can't think of anyone better to play that role...
BmarvB Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 He deserves to play out 2015 as his last year and retire as a bill. He's earned that much respect.
NoSaint Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 He deserves to play out 2015 as his last year and retire as a bill. He's earned that much respect. what makes 15 different than 14? and what if his statement that he wasnt to play 3 more years is true?
Kirby Jackson Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I love Fred Jackson and this is a sad day. He's my favorite Bills player of this era. With that being said we must fight on as Sir Andrew said. Freddie will always be a Buffalo Bill just like the one's before him. Hopefully there will be a spot on the Wall of Fame for him in the future.

I was writing a response to this in which I was questioning whether Fred has a place on the Wall of Fame. Whilst writing, I realized that he absolutely should be on the Wall. Numbers don't tell the entire story. In 30 years, today's Bills fans will still reminisce about Fred and tell his story. He is one of the true good guys in a sports world packed with arrogance, selfishness and insincerity. He will forever be a real-life example of how hard work and dedication can, and do, get results. The NFL would be a better league if there were more Fred Jacksons.
Buffalo_Stampede Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 The 49ers just let their all-time rushing leader walk after a 1,000 yard season. This is the NFL. Not For Long. I love Fred Jackson the person more than the player, which says a lot about him because I loved the player. Hopefully he remains tied to the city in future years. He has a career on ESPN or NFL network waiting for him. He has a couple years left though to make the playoffs, just won't be in Buffalo. I said this month's ago.

He is a productive, intelligent, leader that earned everything. If Phil Hansen is up there (a nice player) then Fred deserves the same.
Rico Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Don't worry CB. We still have EJ, who seems like a really nice guy! If true, thanks & good luck Fred. Better now for him then in the pre-season I guess.
Realist Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 As much as I love FJ, he's a 34 year old running back, has admittedly lost a step, and is getting injured more often. You can't keep someone like that around, if you can get better. With McCoy here now, he would rarely see the field. Even Freddie can't stiff arm Father Time. Its time to move on.

This is football. Players won't always hang it up when their time is up. Why would they? Fred will probably find a team to give him a couple million more for another year, and good for him if he gets that deal. Bruce did, Thurman did, Andre did... doesn't change the reality that it was the right move. Fred won't hold a grudge. He knows it's the business. And it is a smart move for our organization. There's no longer room in that backfield.
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 will be very sad to see Fred go, no doubt. But remember, most of us lived through a day, a little over 15 years ago, when Bruce Smith, Andre Reed and Thurman Thomas all became "former Buffalo Bills". It seemed unfathomable...but we trudged on...and so did they. And we haven't been to the playoffs since that day.
Malazan Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) I can understand cutting Fred. I think the best scenario would be to offer him a Coaching position. However, I think the OP is just taking a guess of something that is likely to happen. Edited March 9, 2015 by jeremy2020
Hapless Bills Fan Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) It would stink if they release him. It would be like how they treated Bruce, Andre and Thurman. The Bills should just see if they can get Freddy to take a pay cut. Why should Fred take a pay cut? He hasn't had that long of a playing career or been paid above minimum for much of it. From the "Fred's best interest" POV he would be better to be released and seek another team that might pay him more as a FA. Edited March 9, 2015 by Hopeful
D521646 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Every time we have these threads (And yes it will happen one day) about Fred losing a step or being washed up, he comes out and blows everyone away, and we're all like, Wow, look at Freddie go.. I hope he stays a Bill at least this year on a playoff run, and then retire to coach.. He's a Bill right up there with the greats. IMO Tim-

Far from it. I saw a lack of burst and many times where in very un-Fredlike fashion he would go down on first contact. I didn't see him getting those extra 2-3 yards after contact that has been his primary strength as an NFL running back his entire career. Not trying to be a hater because you're right, the man is a legendary Bill. And being a D3 hero makes me love him even more. But I think it's time.
