Jerry Hughes signs 5-year deal with Bills

Recommended Posts

Next year's cap space (pre-Hughes deal) assuming the cap stays the same:

$143,280,000 - $97,390,923 = $45,889,077

The following year (2017):

$143,280,000 - $63,836,016 = $79,443,984

Assuming the cap rises $10 million per season that would put us around $50 million next season and $100 million the season after.

cap should see a big bump next year, possibly more than the 10m, but then slow a little after. next year is the year the new tv deals hit the calculation.

@buffalobills: What Jerry Hughes said to Bills owner Terry Pegula this morning: http://t.co/2Q2tQCIq9uhttp://t.co/K8H5GXPmZg

@KevinMassare: Jerry Hughes was predicted by @spotrac for 5 years for 60m. The Bills got a hell of a deal on the player and the cap. Well done J.O.

2015 cap hit for Hughes = 6.1

@ProFootballTalk: Hughes gets $17.625 million fully guaranteed at signing http://t.co/5WevyWz3zm

Fun Jerry Hughes facts:

- was all-league at RB and was also the kick returner in high school

- was a 2-star recruit so he only had a couple of scholarship offers

- switched to D-line in college and got some reps as a true freshman

- started full time his junior year and led the nation with 15 sacks and was all-american

- all-american again as senior with 11.5 sacks

- drafted in the 1st round by Indy (31st overall)

- last year was his first year as a starter in the NFL

Easley seems to be getting over looked lately... I hope he gets offered something, I can't see him NOT getting an offer to stay- he's a special teams stud and still developing as a WR.... His WR development is really slow.... But that ear and a half off didn't help... GO BILLS!

Vincent VanEasley?

Man, he went full Van Gogh and them some. That's dedication.

GO BILLS!!!

Beat me to it.

A bit of an overpay but the guy is a huge part of the defense and young enough that he should be in the fold for the next few seasons. Love the move as it shows aggressiveness in competing now and its not a dramatic overpay. Also the type of deal proves that cash to cap is gone.

I think the opposite.

Many of us thought he was going to get $11-$12M per year on the open market.

$9M a year is a great price IMO

Pernell McPhee got $40 mil / 5 years / $16 guaranteed

If anyone overpaid it was the Bears. To think we got Hughes at the amount he signed at is a bargain in my eyes and something I didn't think would happen once it hit the weekend. It is nice to see our own get re-signed.
