major Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I went from the highest mountain with the McCoy news to the lowest valley with the Cassel news. The life of a Bills fan.
hondo in seattle Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Well we needed a veteran QB on the roster though I can't say I'm excited. Surprised to see he has a lifetime 80.1 QB rating. It's not Tom Brady but it's higher than I thought it would have been. I hope EJ learned a lot last year and he'll be good enough to beat out Cassel. In other words, my big hope is that EJ is actually good in 2015 and we won't need to start Cassel.
blogic2 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Why give up draft picks when he is no better than FAs out there? We could use those picks to get linemen to develop. I am not liking this move much. Hopefully, the picks are below round 4.
Captain Hindsight Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Bills fans will hate this trade because he's not Aaron Rodgers. We'd complain about his cap number if it was Rodgers
mikemac2001 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Cassel is better or same as any vet fa qb this isn't a bad trade but it's not gonna look awesome for fans
Kelly the Dog Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Worse than Sanchez in my opinion, and by a fair amount. But it really doesn't matter much. They're all bad options. He's gotten worse every year of late, and is basically a statue. He did play in the little league world series though, and that's pretty cool. The basic question I ask myself is this: is player X (in this case, Cassell) an upgrade over Orton? I'd say no here. Everyone will have their own opinions, biases and hierarchy when it comes to these crappy options. Sanchez to me is the very last guy I want. He is terrible. And a killer to your team with his carelessness. Stats only tell part of his story. Highlight reels too. He is one of the very worst Qbs out there. Just sucks, and I have watched him a lot, including last year.
NoSaint Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 So when will EJ get cut? youd be crazy to do it before august unless we add atleast 2 more guys you think are definitively better than him
Nanker Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 Cassel's stats: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/C/CassMa00.htm
JÂy RÛßeÒ Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Could do much worse in the "caretaker QB" category. Has had some success, leading 2 teams to playoffs. Decent TD/INT ratio. Looks like he fumbles quite a bit though, with 48 in 90 games (71 starts). http://www.nfl.com/player/mattcassel/2506562/profile

major Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Guess I won't be buying a QB jersey or shirt this year. Unless we draft Petty.
r00tabaga Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Better than McCown IMO. Alex Smith basically. EJ shouldn't worry too much.....lol Like
Deranged Rhino Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Sorry- forgot the add /:s My sarcasm meter is just broken. It's all good.
K D Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Orton>EJ>Cassel>McCown imo. Add Locker to that mix and he probably slots between Orton and EJ. I don't think Cassel is here to start. He is here as a veteran mentor and insurance policy
mattsox Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 BARF. Agreed. Nothing spectacular other than a body who can play QB.

Just sucks, and I have watched him a lot, including last year. I'm hardly pining for Sanchez. I just think he's a lot more talented than Cassell. I watched a bit of Cassell in random games over the last couple of seasons, and he's just not any good. At this point in his career, he's a well-below-average athlete. He's not as bad as, say, Christian Ponder, but he's not good. I'm not criticizing the move; I knew they were going to chase down one of these stiffs.
