Matt Cassel a Bill

Is this the same Greg Cosell who forecast great things for Ryan Nassib?

Sounds like a douche.

Nassib could still end up being a good NFL QB when he gets his chance. He's an UFA in 2017.

Not really happy about this... Guess wait to see who is next.

Christ all Friday, I'm getting sick of Bills fans screaming for something to be done and when it is, complaining about it. Normally, the Bills stand pat in the trade and FA market. What is wrong with you people?

I know you want someone like Peyton Manning, but do you know how hard that is to find?

Is that a serious question ?

@gregcosell told me: "Cassel will win the job. It probably won’t even be close." Also says Cassel is #Bills GM Doug Whaley's top QB pickup.

Good stuff -- thanks.

Nassib really improved a lot last year, at least in camp and preseason.

Gotcha.

BTW- I don't necessarily think confidence has anything to do with it. I would expect a QB who wants to start to go where he has the best chance to start. That doesn't make them "afraid" of competition. That's just following one's self-interest.

start AND win (IMO)

Yup, as discussed before, Nassib made a far bigger leap from '13 preseason to '14 preseason than EJ. Part of it was Nassib was awful in '13 and EJ was passable, but by '14, Nassib looked better in August.

Nope, but I am saying none of the FA QBs are better than Cassel.

Nassib was playing against backups and worse.

But the backup qb is always popular until hey actually have to play. Kirk cousins!!!

Cassel, Sanchez, Moore, they are all deck chairs and decent backups. Trying to claim one guy with a 79 career QB rating is better than the next doesn't mean much. If any of them are your starter, chances are it isn't going to end well.

Well said!

Thanks. I was wondering if anyone had read that

cassell isn't bad, but sanchez and not having to give up picks is clearly better

I'm not sure that's a position one could entirely defend, but I'd be happy to listen if you care to try

Better and cheaper option than McCown but Sanchez would be better.

Because?

Not really. Nassib played against 2nd stringers and EJ also played against backups because Marrone & co gave him extra reps to see if he could lead a scoring drive.

He can't, he probably won't try to because he's a troll. If he does try to, it will likely be detached from any semblance of reality as most people understand it. Still, the funniest part will happen (please God, don't actually happen) if the Bills actually sign Sanchez. In that scenario, JTSP will still find a way to make it an anti-Bills crusade. It's his trademark.

Now this is interesting. For those who don't know, Cosell is no talking head, he's very respected as a QB evaluator. He gets quoted out of context sometimes by PR folks and distorted, but he's solid. Here's what he actually said about Nassib, which isn't exactly praising him to the skies and might even be accurate (Cosell says there was no one in the draft at even the Tannehill level)

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000152748/article/ryan-nassib-is-top-qb-in-nfl-draft-greg-cosell-says

For reference here's what he had to say about EJ Manuel pre-draft:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000148931/article/ej-manuel-offers-both-concerns-positives-cosell-says

Here's Cosell on EJ Manuel after his first season (7:25 into the podcast)

http://www.buffalobills.com/video/audio/NFL-Films-Sr-Prod-Greg-Cosell-on-Manuel-Manning/95287ce2-14a9-42a1-803d-a13dd1ca4183

Note that he zeros in on the main concern many here have about Manuel (accuracy) with the follow-on comment that some people think QB accuracy can be improved and others think it is what it is.

Here's Kryk's article with a little more depth on what Cosell thinks of Cassell (note: I did not read this before writing my post on Cassell, I swear it!)

http://blogs.canoe.ca/krykslants/nfl/did-bills-acquire-matt-cassel-to-start-at-qb-or-merely-push-ej-manuel-experts-weigh-in/

Typically, a quality vet can beat out a 2nd year player which is what Manuel is at this point, but if Cassell can push him and he wins out, so much the better.

Thanks for that, Hopeful. I like Cosell a lot. IMO, he's one of the very best out there. I don't always agree with him but that would be impossible, and there is no exact science to this.
