Do you prefer the media to make us the sexy, dark horse pick? or would you rather they just keep hating (minus Berman)? I kind of like the under the radar with a chip on our shoulder approach, but I wouldn't mind some media love once we have some success

I love the under the radar things and never got why some fans cared about if ESPN talked about us. If we win, they will talk.

That said, we should have expectations. We have a great D and are the second best team in the division. We should make the playoffs this year. But talk is cheap. It's time to prove it.

I prefer to be disrespected by the media. I get so excited when we win and prove them wrong.

No I don't expect adoration. I'd prefer them not piling on just because of past history and then revising their views 10 weeks later.

agreed with the last.

“Since 2011 when rookie wage constraints came in, meaning you don’t have to spend as much on first round draft picks, there shouldn’t be this rush to get them out on the football field. Let’s have a transition. It took Aaron Rodgers three years. Carson Palmer sat out a full year. That’s the way it used to be—let them sit, let them learn, get them some playing time. But the problem is fans get impatient, because ‘he’s a first round pick or a second round pick.’ Media questions it, and there’s more media than ever. And the owners’ expectations sometimes gets out of whack. A guy may not have been ready.”

This to me sums up a lot of the QB issue in the NFL and why, every year, reports say there is only one, maybe two franchise QB's in the class. The simple fact is the franchise QB's we are watching today didn't come out of the draft producing that way from day one. Andrew Luck has had to pay his dues despite that he's been the committed starter, but Rodgers, Brady, and others have had to take their time to learn under others and the systems they're in before being able to produce at that level. Fans and the media need to keep this in mind when saying QB's are busts before they have yet to even play 16 straight games. Obviously there are other cases where a QB just doesn't show up and is an immediate bust, but you don't know until they've had time to adjust.

The media tends to, over the course of the offseason, give everyone a little love, so they can go back during the season and say they predicted success.

The under the radar chip on the shoulder means very little coverage. I'd like to see more of the Bills on TV. Positive media attention also has to help with FA signings.

I tend to think that this is not true. I suspect players believe the media about as much as we do, and maybe even less. I have to believe the players talk to each other way more than they listen to the "experts" opinions about a team.

Honestly, if I were a coach, I'd find every negative headline about my team and post them up on the locker room wall for motivation.

"“When he sits down with the Pegulas, Rex comes off as a smart football guy,” Mortensen said"

Really, so when a guy who has been a HC in the NFL, and a father who also was a HC in the NFL, sits down with a couple who have never been involved with football before, that guy came off as a smart football guy? Really??? What a !@#$ing revelation. My god that whole piece was nothing but bull ****.

Players feelings on the media range between tolerance and hatred. No one is making a FA decision off what bESPN says. Generally money is the first factor, winning the second factor, scheme fit/coaching the third factor and city location the fourth factor. Money almost always comes first.

to be fair, many (myself included), buy terrible reports about other teams hook line and sinker without second thought, while chastising them about being inaccurate about the bills.

i suspect while players likely do listen to close friends -- theres some degree of reputation that goes around based on what they catch on ESPN/Madden/etc.....

and to the folks saying they like to see the media proven wrong.... do you think mort or clayton or.... even bat an eye when they predict a team at 7 wins and they get 10?

No players wants to end up in the places with little coverage. Players go to places where they can have success. Teams that get media coverage tend to have more Pro-Bowl players. Money counts, but clearly joining an organization that is viewed as a positive organization is preferable to joining an organization that struggles to be respected. Your argument would have more validity if we knew that other players felt differently than the media about playing in Buffalo. I'm not sure that our history over the last decade is making any player outside of Buffalo say that is a team that can win. The media is a lot of ex players, like Faulk, Saunders, Warner, Strahan. These are players/HOFers that I would imagine have influence over current players.

No, but it confirms my belief that the media know nothing.
