Â Â indeed he was: overweight, under motivated, etc. That opinion extended well into his second year as well. As the team improved, his reputation rose, leading to a fawning SI article in 1987 about "Buffalo's New Bruisers," which combined Bruce, Biscuit, and Conlan. He ate a boat load of chicken wings, and become overweight. Once he saw the error of his ways, he became a conditioning freak! That Sports Illustrated cover shot of him was scary! Polian announced that The Buffalo bills are only negotiating with Bruce Smith.......many wanted Flutie instead but Polian had Bruce signed early.
