hate the bench for reps, means nothing to actual strength. They should have them do Trap Bar Deadlifts with backs and WRs using 350; LBs, TEs, pass rushers 425; lineman 500.

Bench press does indeed show strength, especially the kind it takes to press free from an offensive lineman for instance.

Moreover, it shows coaches which players have been in the gym and which ones haven't.

Also, asking an NFL hopeful to rep out on a lift like the deadlift the day before they do a dozen high speed drills all requiring lower body explosion is, well, massively I'll-advised IMO.

all good points but lower body strength is more important, and have them lift before they run . I'm not against bench press but ultra high reps are stupid as you only push off at most a few times in any given play.

just heard a draft guy say his comp is Jerry Hughes, so people can stop saying he needs to be a 3-4 OLB only

Not a bad comp. Hughes has learned to play with leverage and if Beasley can do the same, he'll be fine with his hand on the ground in any scheme.

GO BILLS!!!

The bench press at the combine isn't about measuring strength so much as it is about gauging stamina. If it were simply about wanting to find out how strong these guys were, they'd let them press their max weights in the exercise.

GO BILLS!!!

I just edited heh. Rex did a quick interview on ESPN and they asked him if his first pick will be defense even though it is #50. He flat out said the defense is stacked from top to bottom and said they will be looking to upgrade the offense.

Yes, the defense is stacked, but did he say that he wouldn't draft a defensive player? They could still upgrade offense with later picks. They still need BIG nasties on Dline

OL Heights/Weights:

TEs:

http://walterfootball.com/combine2015TE.php

Highlights:

- An OT that I like as a 3rd/4th round pick, Daryl Williams of Oklahoma, checks in with 35" arms...keep an eye on this kid.

- T.J. Clemmings measures up well for a prototype LT, at a lean 309 lbs with 35-1/2" arms

- Ty Sambrailo continues to scare me...he looks lanky for an OT, and is lacking a bit in arm length. If he doesn't put up solid numbers in the BP, his stock could take a tumble (guys with shorter arms should be stronger on the BP).

- Nick Boyle, who I know a few posters here like, has HUGE mitts: 10-3/8". He's also got a Gronk-like thick frame. I think I need to go back and watch more of him.

- Ditto for Ben Koyack, who I think may end up the 3rd TE off the board behind Williams/Walford, who both looked prototypical in their measurements

- I have never heard of Jean Sifrin of UMass, but 11" hands? That's...crazy.

You think that's crazy. Google Giannis Antetokounmpo hands lol

David Johnson

Northern Iowa

6-3 230 lbs and ran a 4.5

1000 rushing and 1500 receiving yards in '14

3 consecutive 1000 yard seasons.

I have a feeling he'll be flying up boards. Only knock is he played in the MAC. Well so did Khalil Mack...

Not a mac school. Northern Illinois is

Yes but it measures how explosive the push is. When i was playing semi pro i was a lde could press 225 31 times. But i never laid under 500 and that doesn't really give you much. What if person a can really press 600 and person b only 515. They will both look strong equally because they can both move the weight once. The 225 is endurance and also explosiveness. I dont understand why its in place as a general event however i think the way its done now is the proper way. Football players do not one rep max anything in training so why make them do it at the combine

So that's why they call him the Greek Freak? His hands look like he's about to phone home.

Lol thats good. I should start calling him E.T. hahaha

I think it's their way of measuring a players commitment to working out.
