What are your favorite cover songs recorded?

I've been fond of both versions of this song as of late.

I've always thought a cover song needs to stay true to the original, while still adding something new. So a bad cover song would be Aerosmith's "Come Together" in my opinion. Their version is alright, but what do they give me that the Beatles didn't? Worst cover of all time may be this.

I like Wes Montgomery's "California Dreamin'," Coltrane's "My Favorite Things"

I've always liked Devo's "Satisfaction"

The Lemonheads version of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" is better than you could ever expect.

The way Gibby Haynes sings "Dancing Queen" can always bring a smile to my pants.

I know there are about a hundred others, but my mind isn't working right now.

Gotta love a theme.

Every one of them we're fuggin awesome, but, none of them could possibly improve on the original. Not f n possible. Definitely enjoyable though!

And, oh btw, that's Duane Allman on guitar:

Pardon this deviation from the thread topic, but how do you get the YouTube vid to show in the post? Mine used to, but when I post now only the link appears.

Thanks in advance.

If you're posting from a mobile, remove the "m" from the start. Sometimes when using a PC an "s" appears at the end of http that can be removed too. Not entirely sure, but generally works for me.

 Obviously I'm no expert, as you can see one won't work for me.

"Love Hurts" from Gram Parsons and Nazareth. Both are covers of the Everley Brothers, but I like these two the best. Music is weird. Both the same lyrics, but convey different emotions. The Nazareth version evokes more of an immediate pain. Like the day/night of the breakup when it's still a fresh wound. The Gram Parsons version comes off as more of a long term pain after a few months, maybe even years.

I always forget this is a cover because even NIN said Cash owned the song.

Yeah, Trent and co. never had a chance.

This one is fun, and much better than the original since it's not an old lady singing it:

My favorite band of all time, covering one of my favorite composers of all time: Deep Purple performing a segment from Beethoven's 9th (RIP Jon Lord)

Thanks for that. DP also was a favorite of mine growing up. Made in Japan was played over and over again. Though I'm a drummer and Ian Paice was one of my favorites John Lord's organ playing (Highway Star is my favorite) is one of the things that make me want to be a rock star. I almost made it. :D

I used to practice guitar to Made in Japan, and Blackmore is still my musical deity, although I'm not a huge fan of his new stuff. It's good to know that there's someone out there that shares an appreciation of Purple.
