That is not the point he was trying to make. He was implying we should of traded Byrd when we had the chance to get something for him, not keep for the year where he was a malcontent, milked an injury & walked out the door leaving us with nothing. If we traded him in that prior offseason we could of got at least a 2nd round pick for him.

That web page gave my computer genital warts, I'm afraid. What's with all the pop-ups?

With regard to this speculation, it would take more than their 1st round pick to get Dareus. Never, ever happen.

toss in Andy & it's a done deal.

There's so much more that goes into trades of players coming up on contract years than just "We want to move him so lets move him".

Any trade would have been contingent on Byrd agreeing to sign a long term contract with that team. So once again, Byrd and his agent are in complete control of the situation.

I cant imagine Whaley and Co. just sat on their hands the entire time and didnt at least field some calls to figure out if they could work out a trade. ...

Byrd and his agent were free to seek a trade with any team in the league the moment he was tagged in 2013. Whaley also worked the phones. There were no takers. And there remained no takers.

people still refuse to believe this, just like they think it's common to tag and trade a player. It's very difficult and it rarely happens.

The Colts are interested in Dareus and we are interested in Luck. Make it happen

I would make that trade.

HA! Going by the old adage, everything's for sale for the right price...what would we have to give up for Luck? 4 years' worth of firsts, Dareus, Sammy, Kiko - what else?

My Kids. all 4. great Kids high ceilings and all that.

Not the grandson though.

i would do almost anything for Luck.

But not the grandson.

Did i mention the exwife ? i would easily toss her in as trade bait for Andy

No way. They wouldn't even get the pick they paid for him back.

Unless you are Jerry Sullivan, who thinks he should be cut.

Don't we owe them that favor they did us ? sure we do.

When its time to collect the bill....

Better sign Hughes.

Suh.

Seems like the article is just speculation. Even still, why would the Bills trade one of our top players for the 29th OVR pick?

They shouldn't. I'm sure the Colts would love to make that trade. It would be an awful trade for the Bills.

Even if the Colts gave you pick 29 and next years 1st I still wouldn't take it (Although it wouldn't be a terrible offer). Dareus is a game changing defensive tackle and very young, extend him and plug him there for the next 5+ years.

We had reports of offers from those connected on this board. Allegedly we passed on a mid round as late as august(?) of his final year.

if they want to give us 3 firsts or Luck, otherwise no deal

anyone remember what happen when Dareus went out with a injury against the Raiders, I do, trade would hamper the D greatly, a top 5 D with out him, not hardly

If Whaley really wants to get creative he could make a huge trade by pulling off basically a 3 way trade. What do the skins want for rg3? We trade dareus for a first this year and next...send those to the skins for rg3. Then we sign Suh to a nice deal and we roll through the AFC.

I cant imagine Whaley and Co. just sat on their hands the entire time and didnt at least field some calls to figure out if they could work out a trade. Additionally, there arent a ton of teams willing to give up high draft picks for an injured player that is going to demand a huge contract. Draft picks are teams' ways of surviving in the modern league with free agency and the cap. They become even more valuable when you have expensive vets on the team.

I'm pretty sure if a team was willing to give up a 2nd, AND sign him to big money, AND he agreed to it, we would have pulled the trigger. It's a no brainer, if you can actually make it happen.

Very nice post, Dr.

So many people just do not understand the business. I'm sure in retrospect NO has buyer's remorse on the Byrd contract. They had to cut three guys to have $ to sign him, and he popped a ganubie early on and who knows - he might be washed up. But can you imagine what they'd be saying in The Big Easy now if they actually made a trade with Buffalo to get this lame bird? It would probably drive the stories of their crazy owner off the front pages.

Two firsts for RG3 reminds me of that time I payed 8.50 to see "Snakes on a Plane" in theaters

no we were talking about it in a couple other threads. If you try to sign him in the FA simulator on fan speak he's 6 mill/yr.

Edit: I'll predict he ends up in ATL. It's his hometown, they are desperate for defensive playmakers, and he was much better in Schwartz's system than Pettine's; I think Quinn uses a similar defense as Schwartz but needs the personnel.

ridiculous? no, unless we have different ideas of that word.

I think it would be great to get Searcy at about 4.5 a year...too bad that isn't going to happen.

Dareus is the leader in sacks on the interior line since he came into the league. So if the colts had the stones to ask us about a trade for him then we should have had the bigger stones to ask them about Luck. I mean I know it doesn't hurt to ask, but why in the world would someone think we would deal maybe the best interior dlinemen in the league?

In a way, it pisses me off a bit. They might as well have said on the phone, "hey, you guys are desperate and stupid, let's talk Dareus so you can take a shot at the middle first."

Sure, but again, it was up to Byrd to decide if he wanted to play there or not, and if they could settle on a contract.

Im sure we received some offers, whatever they may have been. But it wasnt just up to us to agree to.

Byrd wanted to go to a winning team that was also willing to pay him. If Jacksonville offered us a 3rd, and that was our best offer, it still wasnt going to happen since theres no way Byrd wouldve signed long term there.
