K D Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I'm looking up his stats. I knew he was bad but not this bad. 56% completion percentage last year. 14 ints in 11 games played. This is super depressing.
YoloinOhio Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 FYI @SalSports: LRT: McCown was with Roman in SF for 1 month in 2011. Signed in August, released in September. @hsimon62 Also, Kromer was his OC in Chicago so knows him well
Maddog69 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 If they sign McCown, I would hope that isn't their only move. Maybe also sign McCoy or Locker and have a 3 way battle for the starting job. If McCown is the only signing, it would seem that EJ is most likely the starting going into the season. If EJ can't beat out McCown, we are really screwed.
YoloinOhio Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 If they sign him... It doesn't mean 1) he's our starting QB 2) they won't sign anyone else 3) he will make the team. He could replace Tuel or we could bring 4 QBs to camp. Not sure it's worth being depressed about. It's early Feb, I doubt it will be the last QB they sign. He's just the "best" one available today.

Exactly. We need more quarterbacks, not just a starter. I hope he's not the starter but would love to have him as the backup.

Maury Ballstein Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Ah crap! They are going to do the same thing as last year. Start with EJ then when he sucks go with the veteran. Except Josh McCown makes Kyle Orton look like Joe Montana. This is so disappointing. I was really expecting big things and Mike Glennon's backup isn't it Mccown > sorry ass Orton. 2013 bears Mccown was electric. 2014 no OL tampa mccown not so much
What a Tuel Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 is it legal for coaches to be talking with players yet? Or is it because he is a free agent they can?
K D Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I could have been OK with Sanchez or Hoyer. Not 35 yr old career backup Josh McCown. We need competition for EJ. Not hand him the job which is what this move basically does.
Tyrod's Tailor Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 is it legal for coaches to be talking with players yet? Or is it because he is a free agent they can? Maybe it's different because he got cut? I was wondering too.
Chuck Wagon Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 is it legal for coaches to be talking with players yet? Or is it because he is a free agent they can? Because he was released I believe it's fine. Duron Carter and obviously Incognito already signed. I think the FA rules only apply to guys whose contracts expired at the end of the year, not guys whose teams cut them after the season. Realistically we aren't likely to see anything more than a late round wild card through the draft. McCown at the very least can be an ok backup and should be a good veteran voice in the QB room. If we can sign McCown now before FA starts then we can focus on adding one of Mallet - Hoyer - Matt Moore - Locker - Sanchez - Bradford when FA opens and have 3 guys ready to come in and compete. March 7-10: Clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2014 contracts at 4:00 p.m., New York time, on March 10. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 4:00 p.m., New York time, on March 10. - I believe released players like McCown are treated differently.
DPR4444 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 1m1 minute ago Former Bucs QB Josh McCown is in Buffalo, where the two sides are trying to work out a deal today, per me and @mikerodak. 0 replies0 retweets0 favorites Reply Retweet Favorite More

Sanchito almost fooled us last year w great play but couldnt keep the turnovers away as always.

He's the "top" available QB. I don't really care if they sign him or not. He's not the type of player who will be handed anything, or is even guaranteed to make the team. Kromer has worked with him, and probably thinks he's worth bringing in. Edited February 16, 2015 by YoloinOhio
Coach Tuesday Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Lupati and McCowan = Soup-or-Bowl 2016.

He's the "top" available QB. well i'm sure that's how they are pitching it. he's the top FA QB and will demand top FA QB money. looks like we will find out today. I'm guessing at least 2 years $10+ mil and half of that guaranteed Edited February 16, 2015 by kdiggz
eball Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Ok, so it looks like McCown is going to be the first new QB in the room to compete. I'm fine with that. As Yolo said above, it's February and this doesn't signify any hard and fast decisions have been made. The guy played very well in 2013 and let's face it -- he's better than Tuel. Just one more piece in a puzzle that isn't even close to taking shape yet.
