olivier in france Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Am i the only one thinking that the Eagles should have never tried this onsidekick?! instead of playing on his own line Mc Nabb could have just needed an intermediate pass to get to FG range...
jarthur31 Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I don't think the clock would've mattered. McNabb was so off tonite it wasn't funny. Somebody shoulda alerted him to the fact that he was playing in the SB!
Nanker Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 ESPN has a good article on it. Mystery of mysteries. Maybe he had too much Chunky soup at halftime.
Chalkie Gerzowski Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 1-10-PHI34 (4:19) D.McNabb pass to J.Parry to PHI 36 for 2 yards (R.Phifer). 2-8-PHI36 (3:45) D.McNabb pass incomplete to F.Mitchell. 3-8-PHI36 (3:42) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens to PHI 46 for 10 yards (A.Samuel). 1-10-PHI46 (3:36) D.McNabb pass incomplete to T.Owens. 2-10-PHI46 (3:28) D.McNabb up the middle to PHI 46 for no gain (T.Bruschi). 3-10-PHI46 (2:55) D.McNabb pass to F.Mitchell to NE 43 for 11 yards (T.Bruschi). 1-10-NE43 (2:20) D.McNabb pass incomplete to B.Westbrook. 230498 1:59 off the clock to go all of 23 yards? Maybe McNabb had a few cans of Chunky Soup in his socks instead of a Sharpie.
_BiB_ Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Let's not forget the blown opportunities in the first quarter. They could have been running out the clock in the last two minutes.
VABills Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Well it isn't Mcnabb's fault. Somehow Bledsoe is the only bad QB in the league and the only one who ever plays small in big games. Come on guys blame Bledsoe, he sucks, he is the reason Philly lost. No other Qb fumbles, throws picks and has poor clock management except Bledsoe.
Doza Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I stick to my previous assesment: Patriots - a very good, opportunistic team, not a dynasty level team like the 49ers, Cowboys, Packers or Steelers. SB36 - Mike Martz factor, nuff said. SB 38 - John Kasey kicks the ball out of bounds after the Panthers last td - may as well give the game to the Pats. SB39 - terrible clock management and some horribly thrown passes by Donovan keeps the Eagles from winning a winnable game. 230533
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 I was amazed at how much time they wasted and how many times the offense looked bored or uninterested. Hello! It's the ****ING SUPER BOWL! WAKE UP!!! The other thing is, some players like the Eagles center Hank Fraley were trying to get the players to the LOS fast and McNabb kept insisting on the huddle. 230501 Donovan McNabb is THE most over-rated QB in the NFL.
zow2 Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Andy Reid is notoriously bad w/ clock management. Just ask any big Eagles fans. Philly is used to being up late in games and not having to run hurry up stuff. He's not going to win the big game. Reid is just not that great w/ in game adjustements.
Doza Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 McNabb threw as many int's last night as Brady has thrown in 9 playoff games.
MichFan Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 In McNabbs's defense, for some reason the Eagles seemed to have chained him in the pocket and told him not to run. He is a much more dangerous QB when he shows the defense he'll scramble. That was not a factor last night, so the DB's and LB's only had to focus on their coverages. Still, he is only an average QB. As long as it isn't Rush Limbaugh saying it, people seem to be okay with that assessment

He gets a lot more attention than he normally would because he is black.
gmac17 Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 McNabb is an average QB who plays on a good team. He gets a lot more attention than he normally would because he is black. did you have a look at McNabb's stats for the season?
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 did you have a look at McNabb's stats for the season? 230746 Here's his career stat line: Year G GS Att Comp Pct Yards YPA Lg TD Int Tkld 20+ 40+ Rate 1999 12 6 216 106 49.1 948 4.39 63 8 7 28/204 7 1 60.1 2000 16 16 569 330 58.0 3365 5.91 70 21 13 45/262 45 5 77.8 2001 16 16 493 285 57.8 3233 6.56 64 25 12 39/273 44 9 84.3 2002 10 10 361 211 58.4 2289 6.34 59 17 6 28/166 27 3 86.0 2003 16 16 478 275 57.5 3216 6.73 59 16 11 43/253 44 9 79.6 2004 15 15 469 300 64.0 3875 8.26 80 31 8 32/192 50 20 104.7 TOT: 85 79 2586 1507 58.3 16926 6.55 80 118 57 215/1350 217 47 83.9 (sorry for the formatting issues.) So as you can see, McNabb's had one year in which he passed for better than 50-ish % completion. Not coincidentally, that's the same year he got TO. Now, let's take a look at his "big-game" performances: 1-3 in NFC Championship games. 0-1 in SB games. that's 1-4 with a huge +/- turnover ratio. Them's the facts. OVER-RATED.
gmac17 Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 1) He had a great season, you can't deny it. 31tds, 8 ints. 2) If 57.5 - 59% = "50-ish %", then I guess those numbers are also 65% ish?
VABills Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 Like it or not, Limbaugh had a point: McNabb is an average QB who plays on a good team. He gets a lot more attention than he normally would because he is black. 230735 Sorry, but Mcnabb has been and still is one of the top QB's in the league. The guy has learned to be a QB first and still has the ability to run when need be. He has an arm, and legs. What he is missing is receivers who are capable of catching his ball consistently. He also tends to be erratic at times, but overall, he is a top 5 QB in the NFL.

It was, if you look at his career numbers, an aberration. What are the odds he does it again next year? I'd take a bet saying he doesn't.
