Surprise cut

Eric Wood - has been awful for the last 2 seasons needs to take a pay cut or get cut.

Chris Williams- This dude can't stay healthy and otherwise not even an average player when healthy. Idk what Whaley sees in the guy.

So since Maroone ruined him we should cut his ass, got it. How about we keep one of our best Oline guys put him in another system and see if he still has it. Hell, if Pears wasn't what 34 and we didn't already have RTs who we just drafted and Hairston healthy again for rotation, I;d say try to resign him too but I won't.

I guess keep him forever. He is 34,injuries piling up, worst ypc of career. It's time.

Biggest thing for me is he looked slow making cuts for the 1st time.

he had a torn groin muscle. He had a a pretty good season catching the ball. Not fair to judge his ypc with this O-line and the running plays called for Fred.

Richardson, Kujo, Tuel, Rivers, Chris Williams.

Yes, I would give Richardson and Kujo till the end of training camp, but the others are deadwood. Unfortunately, Whaley's ego will keep them all on board way too long at the expense of the team.

Mario, Kyle, Dareus, kiko, fred, Wood, Watkins etc

Oh, from your lips to God's ears.

Man with those maniacs still on The Bills, I'll never get any sleep on Sunday afternoons.

My "surprise" cut might be Maquise Goodwin. I think he ended last season firmly #4 on the depth chart and Rex has generally only kept 5 on the active roster through his time at the Jets, preferring instead to keep extra DBs and D-Linemen. I would look for the Bills to add at least 1 experienced vet receiver in free agency (a solid contibuter type not a big splash) and then all of a sudden it wouldn't take a lot to knock Goodwin off the roster.

I hope not, because I think utilised properly he is a real weapon, but I do see a scenario where he ends up on the bubble come training camp.

Urbik another post June 1st cut. Saves over $3 million post June 1st.

Believe it or not, Urbik graded out as one of the better right guards in the NFL from 2011-2013. Last year, Marrone refused to play him for half of the year. When he finally did play him, it was at left guard, where he graded out far worse than he ever did at right guard. He can also play center. We need good guards and good depth. Urbick's play wasn't the problem last year, Marrone was.

Fred has been an aging and slow running back for pretty much his whole career here according the same crap I read on this board every off-season.

Newsflash: He's still far and away the best RB on this team.

If the coaching staff does cut him, then we are in more trouble than most of us imagine. But I don't think Rex/Roman are that stupid.

absolutely. They should use him situationally and according to his strengths. And add a power RB who can carry the rock like a Hyde/Lacey type. That RB can take Spiller's roster spot if he isn't signed. That would make up a nice RB core with Fred, rookie, Bryce, Dixon.

As far as FJ, sure. But what you lose from a leadership standpoint is detrimental. Chandler is a solid player. He isn't a show stopper but can play. You have no support for your claim?

Thank you, I don't really understand the knocks on Chandler. I get that he's not Antonio Gates or Tony Gonzalez but he's a consistently solid target.

I'm not going be surprised if they sign Pears over Hairston because he's been healthier during his career. I am thinking a two year deal as a backup with incentives. He will have more time to work on his technique (he moved to guard late in the preseason last year) and hopefully get some better coaching. As you said, his age may cause that not to happen, but I won't be on here wailing about it.

To me it looks like Glenn, Williams, Wood, Urbik, Henderson with Kujo, Richardson and Pears/Hairston to start the offseason with.as the primary Oline. Not saying they won't add another guy or two, but since Whaley has had a hand in a lot of these guys it may be very similar in July.

I think Rivers and probably one of the te's will go, Wynn doesn't get resigned. I also think Boobie is at risk depending on how Roman views him from their time in sf. There was a reason Boobie left SF, and SF kept drafting guys so I assume Roman doesn't see much value in Boobie.

I really hope we will get to a point where we try to resign our own guys and not bring in many FA's, more like what Pittsburgh does. That means sticking with a coach and front office personnel longer to provide the stability to get guys signed to their second contract.

Every offseason, someone who remembers Fred's age has to chime in and offer that as evidence of his demise. Meanwhile, I simply watch this guy play, and he is the best RB on the team. 2 years straight of unoriginal, run it up the gut football, and he still managed to be the most consistent RB they had. Let's not even discuss pass protection. Until someone outplays him by a tangible amount, he stays put. If Jackson is healthy, why would a players' coach like Ryan not love what he brings to his team?

The only thing I can conclude from your post is that.... YOU don't want Fred cut. Okay, so stop talking like you know what's going to happen.

I'm not saying Fred needs to be cut before training camp even begins,

No you didn't say Fred needs to be cut. You said you WANT him to be cut.

I'm not denying anything about what a bad year Fred had. But so did your guy Brown. And they were both for the same reason mostly. Coaching. Fred gets to stay and both guys will be having more productive seasons. I hope.

Wood hasn't been great but why does he need to take a pay cut? The Bills do not need to clear cap space......some vets are FA who will not be re-signed...

It doesn't matter bout the cap space he's not worth the 5-6 mil he's slated to earn next season. I'd rather have Weisneski Jr or Rodney Hudson for that money

Fred Jackson has been a great player for the Bills, but it was painfully obvious this season---especially after he came back from the groin injury---that he has a lost at least two steps and that exposes him to more hits than in the past. At 34, he is only going to deteriorate and be more injury prone if he continues to play. If he comes back, his role is as a third down, pass-blocking specialists at best. I was hoping that he would gracefully retire as a player and be brought back as a RB coach. If we try to go into the season with him as our lead back, we are going to be in big trouble.

Beyond Jackson, I think Rivers is a likely roster casualty along with Urbik and Pears. Williams' future depends upon his health--he didn't play enough to really gauge his ability last season. I suspect Spikes (provided he is realistic in salary expectations) and Lawson will find a place in Ryan's defensive scheme. Chandler will be back, but hopefully we find a more talented receiver to split snaps at TE with him.

Gay is a question mark, but his kickoffs certainly contributed to the strong special teams play last year and he just might be kept around. However, I think we will bring in some free agent options to challenge for the punting job.

Isn't Pears a free agent?

Guys that jump out at me are Keith Rivers, Manny Lawson, Chris Williams (post June 1st),fred Jackson, Scott Chandler.

The truth is that what hurts would be cutting Chandler. If you have a dependable pass catching tight end to replace him with, please convey that information to the GM. Please don't say draft one; we have other, more pressing priorities in the draft. As for free agents, ditto.
