PromoTheRobot Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) We'll see if everyone feels it's fair if the Bills lose an OT game this way. Also let me know the next time a team defers in OT in a playoff game. Ironically, not that I'm a fan, but Jerry Sullivan feels the same way. Edited January 20, 2015 by PromoTheRobot
dave mcbride Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 How did the TD screw GB? They gave up the TD so I don't see how it screws them when all they had to do was prevent a TD to guarantee a possession in OT Play a little defense and give yourself a chance to win What? How does winning the coin toss guarantee Seattle scores a touchdown? It is MUCH, MUCH harder to play defense after 60 minutes than offense. The offense is definitely favored in OT.

Sullivan's whole shtick is to take the "angry fan's" perspective on ANYTHING. The Packers blew the game. The right team won. I wanted GB to win. I hate the Seahawks.
PromoTheRobot Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 you do realize, even if stats showed a slight advantage to kicking, most if not all coaches would likely still be terrified to defer due to fans/media/etc..... I'm not following you. If stats showed kicking the ball away was better strategy, they would do it. Period. But the stats say getting the ball first is better. Period. You can argue all you want, I have never seen a Bills fan, or any fan, want to lose the coin flip just so they can play defense first in OT.

Also let me know the next time a team defers in OT in a playoff game. Ironically, not that I'm a fan, but Jerry Sullivan feels the same way. I'm with you on this one. The rules rejects the minutia that the nfl counts as law. We'll flip a coin, winner gets choice, both teams get the ball unless one scores 6 first, but if the first team scores 3 first they win if the other team doesn't score 3 or 6, but if they score 3 we keep going until someone scores again. Both teams possess the ball once. High score wins thereafter. Green Bay collapsing in the final minutes is not the point. Besides if you can cover on special teams; or kick the ball out of play, your defense has a chance to stop all scoring. If you can't stop a team from going ______ yards, you don't deserve to be there.

By my count, the team winning the kick is 26-23-1 since the new rules were instated in 2012. It's a slight advantage.
