YoloinOhio Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Or even interviewing for DC? Guys like Mike Nolan who had the last-ranked D in the league and Eric Mangini are getting DC interviews... There are several openings... What am I missing?
billsfan1959 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Good question Yolo. I can understand no interviews for a HC position, given what happened in Detroit; however, no DC interviews? I wonder if other teams look at the level of defensive talent on the Bills and downplay Schwartz' abilities? Kind of puzzling to me...
Baba Booey Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 The on the shoulder carry off the field he wanted when the Bills won in Detroit perhaps rubbed people the wrong way.
EmotionallyUnstable Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Puzzling. I thought he'd be a hot commodity. Maybe he came into the coaching hunt too late?
purple haze Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 It could be he doesn't want to coach this season after the way things went down. He won't find the same talent on D as he had in Buff. Might figure it's better to take a year off having a great season than coach a lesser defensive unit and lose his "hot" quotient. Or he just got caught up in bad timing. He can thank Marrone the soon to be position coach for that.
OntarioRV Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Bad timing, and he can choose to be selective I believe he still getting paid for two years unless he finds a gjob.
Pondslider Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 John Fox doesn't have a DC yet does he? Neither does Qunn.
Deranged Rhino Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 People forget, Schwartz wasn't the most popular guy amongst NFL coaching circles when he left Detroit.
Dorkington Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I think the easiest answer is because he doesn't want to coach this upcoming season. Taking a year off gives him an advantage of finding the right situation.
Dr. Fong Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Maybe teams aren't eager to bring in a DC that is looking to become a HC again right away and probably will be gone after only one year.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I feel like the skins asked permission to interview him for dc, didn't they?
Kelly the Dog Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Maybe teams aren't eager to bring in a DC that is looking to become a HC again right away and probably will be gone after only one year. This could be it. And he is not bringing a full staff with him that he used in Buffalo, so there wouldn't necessarily be an in house replacement.
BADOLBILZ Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Or even interviewing for DC? Guys like Mike Nolan who had the last-ranked D in the league and Eric Mangini are getting DC interviews... There are several openings... What am I missing? Look at his history as a DC. His legend here on TSW has far exceeded his accomplishments. Not a difference maker as a coach. He's not going to go somewhere that ranked dead last in total D one year and turn them into a top all-around D like a Wade Phillips used to, for instance. Give him top talent and he won't mess it up. Not that many of those situations around the league.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 I feel like the skins asked permission to interview him for dc, didn't they? I thought some team asked but were denied... Bills deny Redskins permission to interview Jim Schwartz
Buffalo_Stampede Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) He may get a job or just take a break. He was thinking about taking a break before the Bills came calling with big money. He still gets $6 million from Detroit plus what he gets from Buffalo the next 2 years. He can always get a DC job. Still young. Edited January 19, 2015 by TheTruthHurts
Max997 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) He prob would hv got the Skins job if he was allowed to interview for it. Most of the HC vacancies were filled by defensive coaches who will obviously bring their own systems so his opportunities are also limited. I think he ends up in Chicago but I also read somewhere that he may take the year off Edited January 19, 2015 by Max997
papazoid Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 maybe they don't want a "one and done" kinda guy who will leave at first chance he gets.
Mr. WEO Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 A LOT of poster here had no doubt Marrone would get a HC spot in the NFL soon after he opted out. Go figure.... I bet teams look at the talent on the D and concluded that Schwartz was essentially Chance the Gardener in Buffalo. These other teams know they don't have the talent the Bills D has and didn't think Schwartz therefore would be useful.
BreezeMafia Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 People forget, Schwartz wasn't the most popular guy amongst NFL coaching circles when he left Detroit. Thats it. I was going to write something similiar till I saw this post. Still a lot of "poison" associated with Schwartz right / wrong / indifferent.
