Kelly the Dog Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Ground and pound is relevant for victory. Remember that we beat this same Green Bay team with a style almost similar to Green Bay. Wilson was adequate in this game with their Def and Orton was serviceable in our game with our dominating Def. We beat the Pack with Pound and Ground, the defense pounding them and the offense ground to a halt.
217014170 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Wilson was horrible the entire game, except when it counted. But don't forget that there was a QB with a 10 QB Rating before those last two TDs. Good thing one game does not make a career and three quarters don't make a whole game. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_rating_career_playoffs.htm

Where Wilson is, Dirty Sanchez, Romo, Manning, Brady, Steve Young, Big Ben. Elway. Marino. Jim Kelly is 47th! Edited January 19, 2015 by Kelly the Dog
Just in Atlanta Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Maybe it is, but to say ground and pound won this game is utterly absurd. Seattle was beat down for the vast majority of this game until the very end. Gutsy and lucky plays won this game at the very end. Last-minute grit won this game. Ground and pound might very well be winning the game for New England, though...

But New England has always been able to run because teams are rightfully terrified of getting beat by their passing and play accordingly.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Ground and pound did not get Seattle and Green Bay to the conference championship game. Two elite quarterbacks did. And the Buffalo Bills do not have an elite quarterback. Do "elite" QB's throw 4 INT's? what I heard and don't remember exactly QBR of 0 1st QTR, QBR of 0.2 2nd QTR, QBR of [guessing] 24 3rd QTR, QBR of [guessing] 70 4th QTR and QBR of 99 in OT The Packers Packed this game in in the 4th QTR up by 2 scores. tsk tsk tsk We beat the Pack with Pound and Ground, the defense pounding them and the offense ground to a halt. to clarify We beat the Pack with Pound and Ground, with the defense pounding them and the Orton led offense ground to a halt.
K D Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Ground and pound is great but it took a lot of great throws by Russell Wilson at the end of the game to win it. He was like out of his body the way he was playing. Only the greats can do that in crunch time and he has shown that he is that kind of player when the game is on the line
ddaryl Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 That is def the way to win with the bills....Wilson made big throws when it counted....we don't have that....yet and that's is still the missing ingredient in any offense. A QB still has to make plays and keep the D honest. Even with ground and pound
frogger Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Ground and pound can work...who do you suggest is our "pounder" (like Lacy or Lynch)....Boobie? Adrian Peterson? Big splash
BuffOrange Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Mike McCarthy kicking a field goal from the 1 foot line was more important. What a stupid decision. Definitely a good Marrone impression.
BmarvB Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 and great coaching and a fake FG TD and some stupidity by GB and... Too many FG's when they needed at least 1 to be a TD, and it would be GB vs NE instead.

Kelly the Dog Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Wilson is hardly an "elite" QB unless you count elite QB's by wins and Super Bowls, in which case the argument is cyclical and pointless. He is the all time leader in passing in post season. He's won a super bowl and going to another after his heroics (and the rest of the team). He's about to become the highest paid player in the entire league. How is that not elite? Edited January 19, 2015 by Kelly the Dog
billsfan1959 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Ground and pound is great but it took a lot of great throws by Russell Wilson at the end of the game to win it. He was like out of his body the way he was playing. Only the greats can do that in crunch time and he has shown that he is that kind of player when the game is on the line I like Russell Wilson. He is smart, and a great athlete. However, IMO, he is not an elite QB. He may end up being one, but, at this point in time, he is nowhere near the category of Rogers, Manning, Brady, or Brees. Seattle is the very definition of Ground and Pound and Wilson is the perfect QB for Seattle. He plays smart and doesn't make very many mistakes, makes a lot of good plays with his feet, the occasional good play with his arm, and does not have to carry the team. Seattle got to overtime in that game yesterday as a result of a number of factors, but, Wilson's play was not one of them. He made one great throw in that game, not "a lot of great throws." I certainly give him credit for that throw in overtime; but bad plays and decision making on the part of the Packers, as well as the running game and defense of Seattle is what got them to overtime. As far as this idea of Wilson being a "crunch time" player when the game is on the line? What games are you talking about. No other quarterback has had a fourth quarter lead in more games than Russell Wilson. He has averaged 16 completions a game during the regular season, and 15 completions a game in the post season. In 7 post season games, he has had the lead in the fourth quarter in 5 of those games. In the two games in which he was behind, he lost one and should have lost the other (yesterday). Don't get me wrong, I would take Russell Wilson on my team. He is consistent and smart with the football. He may also turn out to be an elite QB. I just don't think his play at this point justifies putting him in that category Edited January 19, 2015 by billsfan1959
hondo in seattle Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 If Rex Ryan is ground-and-pound, and if Greg Roman is ground-and-pound, then Pete Carroll is ground-and-pound. Pete Carroll runs the ball more than either our new HC or new OC. In 2014, Pete Carroll & the Seahawks ran 51.4% of the time. Rex Ryan & the Jets ran 48.2% of the time. Greg Roman & the 49ers ran 46.6% of the time. Even when you take the QB carries out of the numbers, Seattle still runs more than our new ground-and-pound HC and OC Hawks... 40.8% Rex/NYJ... 40.1% Roman/9ers... 36.2%
