atlbillsfan1975 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Hughes is gone unless they franchise him. Someone like Atl will gladly pay the salary of 12 mil a year. They will have buyers remorse just like they did with Peerless Price. Some teams never learn. I like Hughes but no way is he worth 12 mil. Save the money and give it to other guys. Dareus and the Williams boys made Hughes go from average to a standout. Edited January 17, 2015 by atlbillsfan1975
ALF Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 They will need future cap room to keep Glenn and Dareus and FA's for OL cost big money. $12m is probowl type money, I rather see incentives without guaranteed money. Once you let a player get to be a FA he's usually gone. I don't like the franchise tag route like Byrd. Re-sign or trade before they become FA
ProcessAccepted Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I'll bet anything Hughes gets over 10m. Probably over 12. He's young. He did it two years in a row. He's relentless. He forced fumbles and had stuffs behind the line, even scored a TD. The tape will show that it wasn't at all just because of the other guys. He made some of the best OT look slow, like Joe Thomas. He was excellent against the run, ran down guys from behind on the other side of the line, and graded out as the #14 DE in the entire league. He's a stud. Yeah, the way he dominated Joe Thomas will get will get him at least 12/year. Currently it's not a position of need for us because we have guys like him. I think we need to pay going rate for guys who perform.
Coach Tuesday Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Does Hughes' production have to be put in the context of his numerous penalties? For that matter, does Suh's? Why do GMs forget about that stuff when it comes time to price free agents?
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Yep. Pay him 24 million in the first two years with 20 guaranteed (which will basically be 24m guaranteed) and then decide in year three if he is worth it.IMO, this would be ideal and fair for both sides.
Dorkington Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 In the past, I'd say he's as good as gone... but it is a new ownership, so one can hope. Until we get high production, and big money offensive players, we might as well spend on the defense.

frogger Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 If we can either get offensive help or sign Hughes, I'm getting offensive help. The Defensive scheme that Ryan runs will generate pressure, I'd rather get Pernell McPhee or Ayers and Boling than Hughes

Ted William's frozen head Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I am all in for signing Mike Iupati and I would also bring back Spiller for about 9-10 three years. Not interested in Hughes at 12 per year (did nothing until he arrived with the Bills)lots of players would look good playing with those three guys. I'd let Spiller walk, and pay Hughes.
truth on hold Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Question now is Hughes versatile enough to play OLB in a lot of 3-4 / hybrid looks? If not then its not worth top dollars for a guy that will see less than half the snaps

But 12 mil a year would make him paid like one of the elite in the league. I don't know if he's elite like a Mario/Justin Houston. But you might be right. If he got over 10 mil I wouldn't see it as a waste of money at all. But the Bills are due to pay Dareus 100 mil, so I don't know if we can swing Hughes, on top of that, and having to get ready to pay Gilmore, Glenn, etc... They will need future cap room to keep Glenn and Dareus and FA's for OL cost big money. $12m is probowl type money, I rather see incentives without guaranteed money.
