Bills Fan in MD Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Because Kubiak is going to accept the job and Sexton knows it and told Doug. He doesn't need to show up for a farce. Why would the Broncos even interview him if he had no chance? He may be a longshot, but I doubt it's a farce.
Kelly the Dog Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 He does if he wants any credibility with another team. He's not a saint. He's a martyr. I truly think all other teams know this, too, and no one would hold it against Aint Doug. They will hold other things against him, just not this.
GG Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Because Kubiak is going to accept the job and Sexton knows it and told Doug. He doesn't need to show up for a farce. Still not a rational reason to turn down the interview, especially when there's a serious question about his team commitment. You want a competitor in that job, not the guy who's slinking away because there's a higher probability candidate coming in a day later.

That, and after the widely-reported rumored disaster of an interview with the Jets - a team that by all reports was all set to hire him BEFORE the interview - you should really want to go into another interview and generate a different public perception of yourself. It's not always about getting the job. Sometimes it's about getting the exposure. (That's the whole idea behind the Rooney rule.) Marrone is in desperate need of some positive exposure right now. And he's apparently too stuck on himself to realize it.
Augie Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 So, he got turned down BEFORE the actual interview? This is new ground, even for Dougie!

YoloinOhio Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) So he was too busy to meet with John Elway? Regardless of whether Kubiak might be the front runner? Just in case it might lead to an opportunity now or in the future? He should never teach a networking class. Edited January 16, 2015 by YoloinOhio

He's a raging egomaniac and a total assclown, but I'm not convinced he's mentally ill.
BarkLessWagMore Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Can't figure out how to embed the darn thing, but this tweet is hilarious. Rich Fann II @RDotDeuce Follow @ByTimGraham After interviewing for Bears, Jets and Falcons for Head Coach, only natural for him to punt on 4th.

They're orthogonal conditions..."mentally ill" isn't necessarily worse than "raging egomaniac" or "total assclown." I do know that. Bad choice of words. I apologize, actually. I meant to say, of course, that he is not completely out of touch with the reality of the situation, however infuriated he is, and not totally incapable of listening to reason. Like if Sexton told him you need to go to this interview for the reasons you stated, but Marrone just blew him off and said no. I don't really think that is what happened. I think Sexton told him and the league knows, and owners know that Kubiak has the job, and it won't hurt Marrone at all, with any team, that he didn't go to the farce interview.
QB Bills Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I hated this guy from day one. So happy this is going down the way it is. Good riddance, you disingenuous prick.
ndirish1978 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 (edited) Sounds like Parker got him a pity interview so people think he's still desirable and Marrone chose to play it conservatively and avoid embarrassment. Better never to try than to fail! Edited January 16, 2015 by ndirish1978
DC Tom Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I do know that. Bad choice of words. I apologize, actually. No need to apologize. I honestly thought you were just !@#$ing with me.
Kelly the Dog Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 No need to apologize. I honestly thought you were just !@#$ing with me. Nope. I should have though, now that you mention it.
ndirish1978 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 My favorite PFT comments in the story about Marrone canceling on Denver: "Geez, this guy even quits job interviews." "Even when it came to a job interview, he punted."
Marv's Neighbor Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Marrone would say "you know" 1,000 times in a full interview Well, SOMEBODY, has to know...you know!
TheBillsOrDie Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Side note: that's a really effective commercial. Very. Not so much for insurance...but every time it comes on, I crave a chicken parmesan sub. Right on!!!!
Noodlearm Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Wow! Thats as good as what I just saw in NY paper, Jet's Gailey interested in CJ Spiller, really? He was too easily "winded" for Chan here.
