YoloinOhio Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 @AlbertBreer: The NFL is launching a scouting combine for veteran players. Web site is here: http://t.co/zjjGxzcWuO March 22 in Arizona
boyst Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Smart idea really. Won't hurt to generate buzz for guys in the league. The interesting part is that most teams have open tryouts on Mondays during the season
YoloinOhio Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 @RapSheet: From Matt Birks memo on the veteran combine, veteran FAs will participate in position-specific drills, timing and testing for 32 teams. FA starts 2 weeks before that... So guessing it isn't for the top tier
White Linen Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I like the idea. It would appear that all the question marks or perceptions you have about a veteran could be answered by seeing them on the field.

billsfan89 Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Makes sense. A lot of older players and marginal free agents were complaining that they were getting edged out by college players. Giving them some outlet to showcase their skills before the start of free agency is a good idea. This will help a lot of 2-4 year players on the bubble of rosters stay on and help their careers. While more veteran players 10+ years in the league can go out and have a better opportunity to hang on.

Beerball Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Great idea I think. Saves everybody time & money.
JM57 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I foresee some more Justin Forsett style stories down the road due to this
PromoTheRobot Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 Just curious if the NFL charges players for this.
Dirtbag Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 sweet. i always wanted another combine to ignore.
YoloinOhio Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 I'll watch. I'll be dying for some football in March. Though it sounds like it will be right in the middle of the NCAA B-ball tourney.
downunderbill Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 How effective will it be, there should be plenty of tape on a lot of vet players which would be more of an indicator on their talents. Players could turn in a good combine and go straight back to the form which caused them to become free agents in the first place.
Bangarang Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I actually really like the idea and I'm surprised it took so long for something like this to get started.
