He was pissed? Too bad there was no one he could spoken to about that.....

Next time, he should just go right to the GM.

Not sure if you got it, but the "he" in "he was misused" was referring to Spiller. Edited by Doc

Yes, I got that. Whaley should have complained to someone in charge about the way Spiller was used for 2 years.

To crystalize the issue:

1) The Bills want to run the ball.

2) The Bills want CJ to be part of the team -- presumably they will use him properly and upgrade the line.

3) CJ also is a threat in the passing game and returning kicks

4) Fred and his other teammates want CJ to come back.

5) CJ is a great teammate, loves Buffalo, and loves playing for the Bills.

6) Rex and CJ already have a positive relationship.

The question then becomes:

1) Should the Bills and CJ come together on a contract that both sides appear to want; or

2) Should the Bills listen to the keyboard jockeys on this board?

Well, let's think about the man you're suggesting Whaley go to. How do we think Saint Doug would have responded to a question about how he was utilizing CJ?

I'm guessing it would go something like this:

DW: Hey coach, do you think we're getting all we can out of 28?

StD: Doug, who's in charge of the game plans?

DW: I'm just asking because 28's productivity is way down.

StD: Doug, I didn't hear you...WHO's in charge of the game plans?

DW: You are, coach.

StD: That's right, I am. Don't you have some scouting to do?

Yep. I'm sure their relationship took a dive over the way Moron was using the players.

When I think of Spiller, I try to think of the Gailey version and not the Hackett version. It helps.

Yeah, me too. I hear the criticisms of Spiller's vision, etc. But I can't help but think that the 2012 Spiller is the real Spiller. You have to know how to use him.

Remember OJ was more-or-less considered a bust his first couple seasons - because he was misused - until Lou Saban turned the Juice loose. I hope Rex and Ryan do something similar for CJ.

After all, he's done so much for us.

I mean where else can you get a RB to pin your hopes on that does nothing for four games while raving about his ability to break long plays when he finally breaks one, but not for a TD, and in a game that we lose.

Yeah, it's really tough to not like a player like that. Let's see if Whaley can pull a Mario and give him way more money than he's worth too tying our hands to get something that we really need.

That's it, he's a luxury role player.

This team needs a starting RB that can play every down.

Why? It's not the 70s anymore. It's not the golden age of the running back when teams were built around their halfbacks. Teams tend to have committees of backs now - specialists for different situations.
