Now that I know he's a blues fan, I almost feel bad for all my remarks about joesixpack's mother.

In no particular order:

  • Texas Flood - Stevie Ray
  • Damn Right I got the Blues - Buddy Guy
  • The Jack - AC/DC (I know not a blues band, but still a great blues song.)
  • One Bourbon, One Scotch, One beer - John Lee Hooker
  • Bus Driver - Muddy Waters
  • Love in Vein - Both the Robert Johnson and Rolling Stones versions
  • Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker
  • Crossroad Blues - Robert Johnson
  • Champagne and Reefer - Muddy Waters
  • One Way Out - Sonny Boy Williamson/Allman Brothers

Scrapper Blackwell - "Life of a Millionaire"

Skip James - "Devil Got My Woman" (and not just because it's featured in the movie Ghost World)

Is You Ever Seen A One Eyed Woman Cry - Earl Hooker

Greatest lines ever in a blues song..."is you ever seen a one eyed woman cry? Saddest thing about that woman is tears don't come out of but one eye" and "I'm gonna stop whoopin you in the morning and start back whoopin you in the afternoon"

You just don't get many good songs about beating your woman until one eye swells shut and lamenting the fact that tears only come from the one remaining good eye these days.

Led Zeppelin--Your Time is Gonna Come

Lying, cheating, hurting
That’s all you seem to do
Messing around with every guy in town
Putting me down for thinking of someone new

As far as I know, this is the only film footage of Leadbelly performing. Most of us were introduced to this song by Sonny and Brownie's version at the beginning of Steve's Martin's 'The Jerk'. I'm sick to death of the same old 12-bar blues, so I find this to be particularly refreshing:

I've always been a big AC/DC fan. They get a bad rep for not being a good heavy metal band. But they don't try to be. They're a heavy blues-rock band. And those are standards, and a bit cliché, but they're standard for a reason.
