HOUSE Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Sorry if already posted (search shows it wasn't) but worth the discussion........ How dare he question Doug Whaley's #1 draft pick !!!! Per a league source, the Bills are concerned that Ryan won’t be interested in taking on a team with an unsettled (and not easily fixed) quarterback situation. Wiz Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 That will be an issue for any potential coach, especially if Whaley is speaking "glowingly" about EJ. I can't see many coaches wanting to be saddled with a, as to now, bust for a starting qb favored by the GM.

I still say Mallet or Glennon can be above average. Edited January 9, 2015 by HOUSE
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 He knows EJ is slightly better than Geno and Vick
YoloinOhio Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Then he can go sign Sanchise. The tattoo just needs a little color scheme change.
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 This is the reason he should go to Atlanta. I really like Rex as a head coach but he needs an established qb. He has struggled to get coaches to develop one on his own.
Sojourner Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I've been busy as of late and didn't manage to catch up with the alert (from the dreaded site that we are not allowed to link on here) that came through on my phone which stated that EJ Manuel is scaring off a lot of potential candidates/interviewees for the HC position... Not buying that completely. Think it is all speculation because of Douglas rendering the position vacant. Anyway, whilst I think he would do a reasonable job here, I just don't see Rex turning this program round and getting us where we need to go offensively. This is the reason he should go to Atlanta. I really like Rex as a head coach but he needs an established qb. He has struggled to get coaches to develop one on his own. Precisely my concern.

K-9 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I'd rather this article was posted the day after his interview vs. the day before. GO BILLS!!!

K-9 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I'd rather this article was posted the day after his interview vs. the day before. GO BILLS!!! And this makes a difference why ?? Because it would be nice to know if it was based on an actual outcome of a conversation with Rex Ryan rather than supposition before that conversation took place. GO BILLS!!!
DJasper Probincrux III Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Rex, not for nothing but I have 0 NFL coaching experience but I'm pretty sure that if you handed me a top tier QB right out of the chute I could assemble enough competent assistants and talent evaluators to win at least 5 games essentially by accident.
starrymessenger Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I like Rex but we've already got a top shelf DC. I fail to see what Rex would add to the equation here. I understand why Atlanta would be interested in his talents tho. We need a specialist on the other side of the ball as HC/OC and somebody like Joe D to turn that line around.
NoSaint Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I feel like this should read "bills fear Rex can't develop any qb" and a few of you are just overly dramatic
K-9 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I feel like this should read "bills fear Rex can't develop any qb" and a few of you are just overly dramatic Well, Rex does have a track record in that regard; couldn't develop either of the two he had in NY. GO BILLS!!!
NoSaint Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Well, Rex does have a track record in that regard; couldn't develop either of the two he had in NY. GO BILLS!!! Yup - I mean the article essentially said he failed at Sanchez, and geno and all parties sound concerned about how he'd do without a slam dunk qb in place.... Well, I think that's a fair reason to say Rex probably isn't the guy without a great OC, regardless of what anyone thinks of Ej
RyanC883 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 That will be an issue for any potential coach, especially if Whaley is speaking "glowingly" about EJ. I can't see many coaches wanting to be saddled with a, as to now, bust for a starting qb favored by the GM. I like Whaley. But am extremely alarmed if he is basically telling a new HC that EJ is the QB. On the other hand, Whaley has also strongly indicated that he will get a QB in FA, so not certain how both of these go together. Perhaps he is simply telling coaches that EJ is a good QB, and that we will also be adding one in FA. Less concern then about EJ for a future HC.
26TrapDraw Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 and so we sit.as long as Whaley keeps pushing our project qb every smart head coach prospect will run away screaming. there was only enough room for one massive Ego between the dougs. I think it will be an even tougher sell to the proven commodity coaches like Ryan. especially since having a crappy qb situation cost him his job.
Lombardi1 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Am surprised at Rex Ryan if this story is true. Lombardi won two Super Bowls with Bart Starr (great coaches find a way to win with what they have), not cower away from a challenge. Anyone using the QB situation at present as an excuse to avoid the current opening at HC isn't worth Mr. & Mrs. Pegula's time. What next, a prospective coach shying away because it snows in Buffalo?! Enough excuses already. Any coach worth his weight in gold would be clamoring to come to the Bills to demonstrate that he is more than capable of rising to the challenge. Anything less isn't worth pursuing anyway.
