It's for the most part a dead end in stopping an attack. You can't move until it's already happened.

People can politicize this however they'd like, but unless you are prepared to eradicate an entire group of people, which of course you most certainly are not, there will continue to be religiously motivated murder by the perverted minds.

I haven't heard a single good way to fight it apart from a lowering the "susceptible to brainwash" pool.

We aren't seeing good ways to combat it because we're not really trying to stop it. Jihadists are the favored proxies of choice for many, many, nations (in the ME, Europe, and the US) because they're disposable and easy to disavow. You want to stop terrorism? Well, tough. That's not going to happen because terrorism is a tactic not an enemy. Want to stop Islamic extremism? Well, then we have to have an honest conversation about our foreign policy and how that's been fueling the roots of extremism for decades, if not centuries, in various ways (blowback from colonialism).

The War on Terror isn't about fighting terrorism. It's about inflating the bottom lines of the MiC, swelling the bureaucracy of the federal government (DHS, TSA et al), expanding the powers of the state (mass surveillance, Patriot Act), using it as a pretext for toppling regimes (Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen), and putting on a show for voters. It's a tool used to keep us divided, promote an "us versus them" mentality, thus keeping us easily manipulated and cowed when necessary.

It's much like the "War on Drugs", only re-branded, and will ultimately be the same failure as that war because it's dishonest about its true goals.

If we actually cared about stopping Islamic extremists, we'd stop funding their tribal wars and using them as geopolitical chess pieces. We'd be honest about "regime change wars" and what their true agendas are. If we actually cared about stopping extremism we'd stop working with monsters to overthrow other monsters because we find Faustian deals more expedient than doing the hard work of educating and caring for people.

I'm trying to help you by exposing how hate driven your chosen political philosophy is. It's so clear in your words that even if it doesn't help you, it can help others steer away from the darkness that's consuming you.

And again, you're living in the past. You know your philosophy is flawed so your only recourse is to make up spin about things I've never said.

The truth is the Soviet Union is gone. You believe there is no difference between Russia today and Russia in 1980. That's why you're lost. As for us, you have never cared to have an honest conversation with me, that's fine.

But now we see why. You are allergic to honesty when it challenges your hate because you value your hate of Russians more than you value truth.

That's a sad way to live, GG. I truly hope you find peace one day.

I wonder which enlightened leader called the collapse of the Soviet Union the greatest humanitarian disaster of the 20th Century?

That's quite the nostalgia for a regime that's killed vastly more people than you know who.

My peace will come when all vestiges of Soviet Union are in the same trash pile as their soul mate from Austria.

You can continue to make excuses for them

I'm only worried about you, GG, and my country. Nothing of what I say is an excuse for Russia. I'm not Russian. As such I can't fix Russian problems. I'm American. And as an American it's not only our right, but our duty to hold our government accountable. And when my country decides, like you have, that working with ISIS and AQ to fight Assad and Putin is a sound strategy - even if it means little girls get blown up in England by those same "allies" - I speak up.

Because it's my responsibility and because that kind of logic is hateful and creates more problems than it solves.

Shine the light inward, GG. You cannot get a positive from a negative.

Of course you do. That's why whenever something bad happens you immediately run to the Intercept or Consortium to see how the story is spun that blames the US and West. Objective indeed.

Now tell us how the tech companies are the agents of the CIA.

Dodge and deflect with whatever spin you wish. Until you address the hatred that's blinding you, you'll forever be lost.

Uhm, in case the obvious has missed you as always, my hatred is in plain sight. Yours is the one that's hidden.

I assure you, I have no hate in my heart. If you think criticizing my country means I hate it, then I question your own understanding of what our country is supposed to stand for.

See, that's just more of your dishonesty coming to the surface. But at least we know where that stems from now. Our allies killing children is fine with you so long as those allies also kill Russians. That's the brave stand you've taken, friend. Most people would be ashamed. You're proud. Proud of the hate that drives you.

I hope you find peace one day soon

No. Hitler was the one with the Holocaust right? Those Nazi look like choir boys? In what world?

"You're blind" says the guy who can't see past his personal forest of bogeymen.

Please find your meds. Your mom is worried about you.

If objecting to forging a battle field alliance with a group that blows up little children for sport means I need meds in your book, then I worry for you.

to be fair, I don't think they blow up little children for sport. that's more of a job perk to them

True. That and drowning them in acid or setting them on fire.

But if you object to working with those sorts of people you hate America.

Ask the Ukrainians about Stalin. Or the Jews in Russia. Or orthodox christians. Or the poles. Or the ethnic Germans. Or any of the other TWELVE MILLION citizens of the USSR he murdered. And that's just Stalin. If we're going all communists throw in mao and pol pot for another cool 7 or 8 mill. Communism killed four or five times the number of people fascism did.

Anyone who says they'd trade dead children in London for the chance of creating more dead Russians (who you still think of as Soviets) is not a person at peace. It's someone who's living a life driven by hate.

GG isn't a hateful guy. I'm going to stand up for him. I've met him now at least twice and I have great intuition. He is a really great guy and polite. I don't see him as hareful

But think of the global warming they and their offspring would have caused.
