Although Atlanta slid this year but overall he has done a good job done there and could be the football mind that the Pegulas were looking for in Polian.

I would presume that he would be seen more as a competitor to Whaley as opposed to a czar.

Wouldn't mind that either Whaley has been here for a lot of bad and not much good.

Pegulas won't do it but they should clean house.

He's still the GM and brought Pioli with him after he was fired by the Chiefs. Watch him trying to spark the N.E. Patriots magic by hiring McDaniels.

Atlanta "slid" this year AND last year, too. While Dimitrov has assembled some offensive talent, including a good, not great, QB - his defense is void of any talent and they've been worse than the Bills the past two years. I can't imagine hiring him to tell others what to do.

He kept Mike Smith two seasons too long. Smith was one of worst coaches in NFL. Dont want him having any say in next HC. Defense sucks, signed old vets like Abraham and Jackson. No thank you.

Before becoming the Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff was a national scout for the Patriots in 2002, and was promoted to director in 2003-2007. In 2008 the Atlanta Falcons tabbed him for their new GM.

He hired Mike Smith, and drafted Matt Ryan. That year Dimitroff built a solid team with free agents, and thru the draft. 11-5 their first year in 2008. (9-7 in 2009). (13-3 in 2010). (2011 in 10-6).

For 2011 the Falcons traded 5 picks for WR Julio Jones, and as good as Jones has been it set the team back in other areas. Most notably the O line and defense have suffered, and after a 13-3 season in 2012 the team went 4-12 last year, and 6-10 this year with that "elite" franchise QB.

In 2013 that defense under Mike Nolan went 27th in yards 27th in points. In 2014 that defense went 27th in points, and 32nd in yards.

Scott Pioli was the VP of player personnel of the Patriots until he took a job as GM of the KC Chiefs, and after he was fired by the Chiefs he joined the Falcons as assistant GM to Dimitroff.

Dimitroff is about to be fired depending on if he is wanted by the next new HC. Stating that, both Scott Pioli and Dimitroff have been trying to get Patriots OC Josh McDaniel's hired as the Falcons next HC to save their backsides.

There are better people out there for Buffalos new Czar / president of football operations, like Green Bay GM Ted Thompson who has had extraordinary success in Packerland.

I believe we have a better GM than Dimitroff here already. Dimitroff hit on some early picks, especially on offense and was in position to grab a pro-ready Quarterback upon his appointment (a privilege not bestowed on Whaley as he took over in 2013 in what looks like a real down year for Quarterbacks coming out). However, he has failed to build a defense and their lines on both sides pretty much suck. He can spot an NFL skill position player... beyond that? Not so hot.

I think he'd be an upgrade, but he also traded for a WR in the first round.

Hmmmm. Let's see, we're ticked at Doug Whaley because swapped 1sts last year and gave up a 1st and 4th this year to move up and draft a coveted WR this year - no one should do that - so we want to swap him for the guy who swapped 1sts and traded a 2nd and 4th in 2011 and a 1st and 4th the subsequent year to move up for Julio Jones (the benchmark trade up that likely led the Bills to feel they had gotten a pretty good deal from the Browns)?

Why does that make sense? Arguably that hurt the Falcons on the OL and on D, as they have slid from 2 successful seasons that looked as though they were on the verge of championship contention, to 2 losing seasons. Now the Falcons top coach candidate is said to be McDaniels because it would save Dimitroff's job. No thanks.

This may be controversial but I think Whaley kicks Dimitroff's butt as a GM. We certainly have better personnel in place on D and D coaching. There has never been an equivalent player to Matt Ryan coming out on Whaley's tenure. Let's put in a real OL coach and an OC/HC who can make offensive adjustments before close the book on the OL acquisitions, too.

I think he'd be an upgrade, but he also traded for a WR in the first round.

I think the argument goes he already had Matt Ryan in place. But the trade involved 5 picks, not 3 and the Falcons D and OL suck

He just got the same promotion the GM in

Philly got. People in Atl was calling for his head.

When Vick went to the clink the Falcons were as big of a mess as there was in sports. Dimitroff has to get some credit. They were an elite team when they traded for Jones so I don't hold that against him.
