Marrone is easily replaceable and in fact easily improved upon.

If we do our homework and bring in a good one, this team will not miss a beat in the HC department.

Mark my words!

Also: if they can find a QB who is just a notch or 2 better than Kyle Orton, we could be in the playoffs next year.

Way too early to predict doom and gloom. We have to see how a bunch of things start to play out over a period of months.

 I'm good with this - great post!

$140 mil - projected 2015 cap

$110 mil - current active contracts & dead money

$30 mil - avail cap

$10 mil - of the current active contracts I'm NOT counting the following players: Spiller ($4.3), Lawson ($3.1), Rivers ($2.2), others.

$10 mil - carryover (pulled this number out of my azz)

$50 mil - Total avail cap space

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/cap/2015/

This is not quite right.

Projected cap is $138.6M

Active contracts are $107.4M

Dead money...$3.3M

Available cap....$27.9M

Spiller contracts looks to count regardless(new info recently reported about "optional" year).

No guarantee who we cut so one cannot count Lawson or Rivers.

Carryover is only $2.7M

Total cap space at this point is $30.6M.....with no Hughes, Spiller, Spikes, Searcy, Hairston, Easley, Hogan, Gay etc.

the sky is falling, the sky is falling (sarcasm)

#1- the relocation gorilla is off our backs.

#2- we didn't finish last in our division for the first time in 7 years.

#3- we are $50 million under the cap.

#4- kim and terry are actively involved in the coaching search.

things are looking up to me.

and the quitters quit

When the Bills finished 9-7, their first winning season in 10 years, it was tempting to see them as a team on the rise, one that had emerged from years of incompetence. Instead, the franchise has reached a level of dysfunction unparalleled in its 54-year history.

-Jerry Sullivan.

Really? Unparalleled? I feel like our team is in the best position it has been since, well, forever.

We have a new owner and a commitment to stay in Buffalo.

We have a strong, young team brimming with talent. Mostly realized on the defensive side but yet to be on the offensive side.

The coach and qb most people here wanted gone, up and left on their own.

Schwartz is under contract until 2016.

He will only leave for a HC job or resign or get fired. He can't just move off and be DC somewhere.

but, but, the guy who should know (whaley) said it was just $16 mil.

we could quibble all day, because it's almost impossible to get a verifiable number.

projected cap is a very volatile number. it actually should be about $150, but owners are trying to "phase" in the new TV money over a couple years. anyways the current consensus from the league is it likely to be $138-143 for 2015. The NFL Players Association disagrees, expecting the number to be much higher.

Spiller is a Free Agent in 2015. his 2015 contract year is voidable. Once the player hits a minimum playtime threshold the void kicks in. There is no option on the void, it’s an automatic termination of the contract once earned. which he earned. Bills are on the hook for $2.1 mil in Dead Money for 2015.

where did you get the carryover number from ?

#7 - Mario Williams and Marcell Dareus AP First-Team All-Pros

And if not for weird voters who put jj watt as a DT, Kyle Williams would be a 2nd team all-pro.

Also, let me get this straight, Spiller was set to make 4+ million in 2015, but has elected to option out? Enjoy that 2 year 2.8 million dollar contract waiting for you Spiller, you've done us a favor.

I can get them to 50 million

16 was before the williams and orton departure

the cap may go up as much as 15 million and you can pick up an easy 10 by converting some of Mario's money to a bonus. That is with out cutting Chris williams or Rivers

I think they will start with about 40 more then enough to resign hughes , searcy and spikes , my preference . If they go the Cutler route that might be it, if not they can sign Buluga and the guard of your choice and still be fine

On the page you linked earlier......change it to 2014 and right down the bottom you will see the remainding cap dollars for 2014(which carries over to 2015).

Re: Spiller....somebody linked an article here about a month ago which pointed out that spotrac had the 6th voidable year incorrect.....and all other media picked it up and reported it the same. From memory the 6th year is valid only if the player doesn't meet some very easy to reach playing benchmarks(something like play 40% of games). When the benchmark has been reached, the player option becomes invalid. The money for the 6th "optional" season has already been guaranteed (or pre-paid?). Essentially it was a cap moving maneuver moving some cap hit to the year after the contract finishes.

If hughes is not signed, then he will be franchised. They will sign him. Hogan is restricted, and I think Hariston might be too. To your point, it will cost a little more than half of that money to sign Hughes, Searcy, Hairston, HOgan, and Easely. Spiller and Spikes are the real ??? Not sure a new HC will keep a kick off specialist either. Wynn is another name I think they will re-sign.

Hogan, Bryant, Gay, Thigpen and Sukay(who?) are our restricted FAs.

Is there a reason you think the bolded is a good thing? Do they have a wealth of football knowledge that I am unaware of?

They don't need it; hire someone who does!! Very simple process.

#8 - We didn't get Bill Polian. Contrary to what many believe, this is actually a good thing that he backed out. An old 72 year old isn't what the Bills need right now. See that Marv Levy experiment as a reason why it wouldn't have worked.

Agree!

I know this isn't always the case but usually if you've made as much money as Terry you're a fantastic decision maker and it's usually centered around putting the right people in place. That's just my take on why it's a good thing. I know Terry seems meek and naive but I'm sure he's a focused shark when it comes to things like this.

the confusion was that it was being reported that Spiller had a choice and it was his decision to either opt in or opt out. he has no choice. he is a free agent.

Agreed with both, not sure about it being simple though :). But the original post said "actively involved", and rumors abound now that the new coach will report to Pegula and not to the GM.

I've had a closer look and Spiller will provide another $2.2M of cap space over that which is listed on spotrac. Technically Spiller will be a $2.17M dead cap hit for us this year.

I have a feeling CJ isn't going to opt-out of the final year of his contract and forgo $4.5M after this past season.
