KOKBILLS Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 IMO, he is the closest to a slam dunk candidate as there is available. He would be a perfect fit for our current situation. His credits: —Discovered and developed Russell Wilson, when no one else in the NFL was considering him. —Continued to innovate on offense after defenses started figuring out what they were doing. —Former QB, has a speciality in developing scrambling strong-armed QBs —Was the OC in Minnesota and helped Favre to his big year there, and one of the best years of Favre's career PFT reports that the Bills have requested permission to interview him. I think he makes way more sense than anyone else they're looking at. He's an offensive specialist who has shown the ability to make something out of nothing. Unlike Gase or McDaniels, he isn't leaning on a HOF quarterback. Unlike Reich, he has a proven track record of success. Bevell/Schwartz/Whaley is a power trio that I would have a lot of faith in. Definitely like it...
Jamie Nails Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Can hires be made while these guys are still alive in the playoffs or can they only be formalized after teams get eliminated?
poblano Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Since two years ago my candidate has been Jim Tomsula DL coach from 49ers, but this is no longer the situation for him (in my perspective) now is Bevell's, i think is the best choice to develope properly the talent of several ofensive players and without major defensive changes

"Seahawks coach Pete Carroll revealed Monday that general manager John Schneider had to talk him into drafting the under-sized quarterback." "John convinced me on Russell," Carroll told TheMMQB.com's Peter King . "He was on him early, then he came back from seeing him late in his season at Wisconsin, I think against Michigan State, and he was so enthused about him. I watched a lot of tape on him, and John was right on. Then he got here, and he was everything John said he was." http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000312949/article/pete-carroll-had-to-be-convinced-to-draft-russell-wilson If you take a close look at Bevell he did well one year with Favre, and the next fell on his face with a 6-10 season that got both him and the HC fired. In Seattle before Wilson he had some very pedestrian numbers with some not so good QB's Matt Hasselbeck 2010, Tarvaris Jackson 2011-2012. (Being the #23 points - #28 yards offense in 2010 with Marshawn Lynch) ( #23 points - #28 yards again in 2011) It wasn't until Russell Wilson got to Seattle in 2012 did that offense get good at #9 in points #17th in yards. Then in 2013 #8, #17 for their SB year. Meanwhile the had the #1 defense in both points allowed, and yards allowed. The team rushes more then they throw the last two years but that is because Russell rushes for a lot of yards. Sorry, I'm not sold.
Uffalo Ills Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Seriously, I think he's a great fit. But we need a running back like Marshawn right quick. I was hoping yeldon falls to us based on looking at teams who need an RB more than anything else, but someone is bound to want him just because. Given Bevell's use of lynch, i dont know if CJ will fit in, but i hope he will. Plus it concerns me if the WR situation in Seattle is his fault or just a lack of talent....
pretzel logic Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 A devout Mormon. Hopefully, he won't try to move training camp to Utah Awesome thought.....lmfao
machine gun kelly Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I thought you guys might want to read this research on Bevell. I like his resume and we could benefit from an offensive minded coach to change our approach. I wonder if he could use Spiller wisely off tackle, screens, etc vs. up the middle like Hackett (stupid). The other option is you promote Schwartz, and have him lure an experienced OC. The defensive scheme stays in tact, and we improve on offense. If they do bring in one of these coordinators, I would promote Schwartz to Assistant Head Coach, and increase his salary to keep him happy and secure. Coach[edit]After going undrafted in the 1995 NFL Draft,[1] Bevell began a career in coaching, including stints at Westmar University (Le Mars, IA), Iowa State University, and the University of Connecticut. In 2000, Bevell was hired by the Green Bay Packers as an offensive assistant. In 2003, he was promoted to quarterbacks coach, where he worked with Brett Favre. In 2006, Childress was hired as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, and he brought Bevell to become the offensive coordinator. In 2009, Bevell was reunited with Brett Favre, but this time being the offensive coordinator, and having the play-calling duties. In 2009, the Vikings had a successful season going 12-4 and advanced to the NFC Championship game, ultimately losing in overtime to the eventual Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. In the first season with Favre, he produced 4,202 passing yards with 33 touchdowns and accumulating a QB rating of 107.2 in which was his career best. In 2010, Minnesota season ended with 6-10 record, and with disastrous moves throughout the season in which head coach Brad Childress was fired mid-way through the season. Replaced by defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier as interim head coach at 3-7 record, and finishing 3-3 as interim head coach. In the beginning of the 2011 season, Bevell was not retained as the offensive coordinator by new Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier, and was replaced by Bill Musgrave. On January 21, 2011, Seattle Seahawks head coach, Pete Carroll hired Bevell to become the new offensive coordinator after the firing of Jeremy Bates due to "offensive philosophy difference". In 2011, the Seahawks went 7-9, and failed to defend their NFC West title in which they didn't make the playoffs. Bevell's offense that year with the Seahawks was 28th in the league. In 2012 off-season, Bevell was scouting quarterback Russell Wilson, who attended Wisconsin, his alma mater. Bevell attended Wilson's pro-day which very few NFL scouts attended. Through the off-season, the Seahawks obtained Green Bay Packers back-up quarterback Matt Flynn who experts thought was Bevell's choice of quarterback. Going into the 2012 NFL Draft it was thought Seattle was set at the quarterback position since they had Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson, but for whatever reason Seahawks decided to add one more, drafting Russell Wilson out of University of Wisconsin-Madison in the third round. Thoughts on selecting Wilson, Pete Carroll stated, "It was Bevell's project". In training camp the quarterback competition was thinned out between two, after Jackson was traded to the Buffalo Bills. In 2012, the Seahawks named Wilson the starting quarterback for the season. The Seahawks finished the season with an 11-5 record, and took 2nd within the NFC West eventually losing in the Divisional round in the playoffs. In Bevell's second year with the Seahawks, offensively they were 17th in the league which was an improvement from the last season. In rushing the Seahawks were 3rd in league, previously being 21st in 2011, accumulating 2,579 yards and averaging 161.2 yards on the ground. In, 2013 the Seahawks started the season 4-0, and finished the season 13-3 and won Super Bowl XLVIII over the Denver Broncos. Bevell's rushing offense is currently 3rd in the league with 1,754 yards and averaging 146.2 yards per game. Overall in total offense, Bevell's team is currently 11th in the league with producing 364.6 yards per game. In two seasons, Wilson under Bevell's offense has accumulated a QB rating of 103.7, and a completion rating of 64.5pct. Now if Whaley can outbid unrestricted free agent Nick Foles, we'd have a fighting chance next year as we can draft the best possible players where we have needs like OG, and TE.

I have been going to Seahawks message boards to find out what the fans think of both Bevell and my favorite for Bills head coach Dan Quinn. Not that it matters, but Seahawk fans for the most part are not fans of Darrell Bevell. It seem like 80% don't like him and 20% do. Their main beef is that he has nothing to do with the success. It's all about Wilson making things up when Bevells play goes bust and then it's all Beast Mode. It seems that Seahawks fans do not want to see Quinn go because they like him. They don't want him to go to the Niners, so that tells you the fans respect the job he's done. I still like Bevell as a possibility, but I think that Dan Quinn is the perfect fit. Quinn is east coast (from New Jersey), I think he will provide a real identity for our team and that Bills players will love to play for him. Bevell (from Arizona) has that west coast cool factor that I don't think fits with the Bills. I think that Dan is the man people. Edited January 3, 2015 by 1billsfan

1billsfan Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 im not sure fan message boards are the place to go for credible coaching evaluation. No fans like the coach or QB except a few. I disagree, fans watch every play. They aren't always right, but they're probably right a lot more than wrong. Just like it is here at TSW. I think that Bevell is an average coordinator who could actually be a very good head coach. He seems to have that HC temperament. Their opinions did not sway me totally, but they are certainly valid in that Wilson's Tarkington impersonation and Lynch's Earl Cambell impersonation bail Bevell out a lot. If they don't hire Quinn and hire Bevell I'd be ok with it even though I want Quinn.
YoloinOhio Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Bevell getting hired as Bills HC would be a dream come true for Sammy Watkins. Jet Sweep City. There probably aren't a ton of things more important to Whaley than making his trade look good.
Nanker Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 A devout Mormon. Hopefully, he won't try to move training camp to Utah or refuse to work on Sundays. +1. We NEED a running game which requires a better OL coach and guards, plus a stud workhorse RB.. Otherwise, he has the D to try to replicate the Seattle success. lol I meant we really need a running game (Guards + OL coach + workhorse back) and then add in the D we already have... Then hopefully he can replicate Without the running game it will never work Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice are available.
Wayne Cubed Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Here's some good articles about Bevell and his philosophy: http://q.usatoday.com/2014/09/05/darrell-bevells-offensive-gameplan-the-star-seattle-seahawks-opening-night-win-nfl-green-bay-packers-percy-harvin/ How he uses constraint plays. http://www.fieldgulls.com/2014/11/21/7260693/darrell-bevell-and-constraint-plays-a-primer-on-offensive-philosophy
voodoo poonani Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Of the candidates we are set to interview, he would be my preferred (assuming we can keep Schwartz). If it came down to it though, i would keep Schwartz and hooe he has a good OC lined up.
fridge Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 He truly has not had a lot of success. His offensive numbers are pedestrian. He has relied heavily on Lynch breaking tackles in the red zone to finish drives. His best season statistically is the year where Brett Favre, future HOF'r, gave it his all in a rah-rah type last time out season. Keep in mind he had Adrian Peterson as well. The Seahawks are not really winning because of their offense, though it's undoubtedly an upgrade over ours. I'm up in the air with this guy. Broncos OC has been around some dominant offenses.
BuffaloFan68 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 To me, Cable fits the image of what a Buffalo HC should be. I'll be happy with an Offensive minded HC (Cable, Bevell, Kubiac, etc...) or promoting Shwarts as long as he has a great OC to in mind to bring on board. I would also get replace the QB Coach (TD sucks as everyone he coaches regresses)& I'd swap Crossman out for DeHaven (I would just have DeHaven be more aggressive & not play things so conservative).
Charles Romes Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Correct. Poised to win a second title with a smoke and mirrors O featuring a bargain basement 3rd rd 5'11 QB and no deep threat.
Bangarang Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I'd much rather prefer Quinn over Bevell. My gut tells me Quinn is going to be an aggressive HC that guys love to play for.
CardinalScotts Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 this is the guy I would try to hire..IF he's leaving the defensive staff as is
