Reed83HOF Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) I read this earlier in the day yesterday and dismissed it after all of the crazy information regarding Polian started coming out. The true reason is based in this article: http://www.talkoffamenetwork.com/should-polians-hof-candidacy-be-at-risk-if-he-returns-to-nfl/ 'Retired from the NFL for three years, Polian is one of two nominees for the 2015 Pro Football Hall Fames inaugural contributor class (Ron Wolf is the other), and returning to the Bills not only could have damaged his chances to make it to Canton; it couldve destroyed it. Im serious. A handful of selectors who support Polian told me Thursday that, had he returned to Buffalo, they would have voted against him. ... "Reason: They dont like the idea of someone showing up for his next job with a bust and gold jacket. Theyre supposed to be reserved for the end of your career; not the middle of it. If Polian had returned to run the Bills, he would have lost some support and all it takes is nine nays to derail a candidacy. But even with Thursdays move, Im not certain his candidacy hasnt been damaged, with voters unsure he stays retired. I know, Polian said he is. But so did Bill Parcells, and voters were understandably skeptical until they were reasonably sure he wasnt coming back." On WGR today: WGR 550 @WGR550 17m17 minutes ago Clayton "If it weren't for the HOF, he (Polian) would be hired by the Bills and be heavily involved in the coaching search" We also have this hiring committee and org structure. Tim Graham @ByTimGraham 1h1 hour ago More info on Bills interviews: Terry Pegula will conduct them w/Whaley & Brandon. No Overdorf. Next Bills coach reports directly to Pegula. Does this resolve the issue Polian had when he said this: "And as you go out and interview coaches, coaches expect that the guy in charge of football is going to be there for a pretty long time, and Im not sure I could make that commitment." http://espn.go.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/16764/source-polian-would-have-considered-a-j-smith-for-job-with-bills If he reports directly to the Owner, it resolves the issue of being tied to Whaley if he eventually gets canned... There were also many reports saying Polian wanted Reich... Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora 19m19 minutes ago The Bills have found a way to meet with Frank Reich in Sunday before he interviews with Jets. Had been trying to align it. It will happen Edited January 2, 2015 by Reed83HOF
Kelly the Dog Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 His comments about the heavy lifting make sense in so far as he's trying to appeal to the voters that he really wasn't taking any kind of serious job with the Bills. That could have been a total lie. It's impossible to know for any certainty whatsoever with all these reports and quotes.
