Uncle Monkeyhead Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 No Pro Bowl and no AP All Pro selections. I think this guy is money and kicks in the toughest conditions. He drills them from the 45+ range consistently. I really don't care about national recognition, but why isn't he ever spoken about as a clutch kicker? All I know is that I'll take this guy above all others when the game is on the line.
PromoTheRobot Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Kickers don't get much recognition, especially in the non-glamour NFL markets.
nucci Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I like him but how many games did he kick in tough conditions? Bills didn't really play in many bad weather games.
Virgil Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I've wondered the same thing all season. He's been amazing
st pete gogolak Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 The way it works these days, there are about a dozen kickers a year who "deserve" to be All-Pro. It's easier to pick the one or two kickers a year who screw up so badly they get fired mid-season (guy from the Lions for example). No disrespect to Dan Carpenter, who has been absolutely terrific, but like Jimmy Johnson said kickers are fungible.
Jauronimo Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Please change the name of the thread to Dan Carpenter Gets No Respect!!!
starrymessenger Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Only part of our kicking game that actually works consistently.

Gostkowski and Vinatieri were better in terms of FG%, and Suisham was about on par with Carpenter. In fact, Vinatieri only missed one kick all year and I believe it was in the last game. That being said, Carpenter has been a great signing. Just a case where the competition is slightly better in 2014.
eSJayDee Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Yes, he's very good, but so are many/most other kickers nowadays. Hitting 90%, which is roughly what he does, is the norm. Coupled w/ the fact that he doesn't KO & no, sorry, not worthy of Pro Bowl recognition.
Talley56 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Didn't he miss an extra point? He did, but he also made 2 games winning field goals and basically beat the Packers and Dolphins for us.
TakeYouToTasker Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Under the new format does one kicker still have to go from each league? If so, I can certainly understand the argument for Gostkowski going, given that he led the league in points. I'm obviously biased towards Carpenter, but I think a good case can be made either way.
HalftimeAdjustment Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I think the fact that he does not do kickoffs doomed him.

Mark80 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I think the fact that he does not do kickoffs doomed him. Whoa, new quoting look....anyways, I agree that it may have impacted their selections. The guy only does 1/2 the job, albeit very, very well.
