YoloinOhio Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 @viccarucci: Bill Polian on why he decided not to join the #Bills: Role change became 'heavy lift.' Read more: http://t.co/2gfHofMYPJ Translation - "I want to get paid, not work"
TheFunPolice Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Marrone had a contract where he reported directly to ownership, which was Ralph (but was really Russ) Therefore, Marrone reported to Russ, the guy who loved him and worshipped him. Then Terry came in and that dynamic changed obviously since "ownership" meant the actual owner now. Whaley was not Marrone's boss.

Read more: http://t.co/2gfHofMYPJ Translation - "I want to get paid, not work" Maybe. But also, it would be pretty hard to evaluate the talent without knowing what the incoming HC was going to implement. Or if Peg's opens the vault and hires a heavy hitter HC who would want to build his own power structure regardless of what Polian advised. Just too many moving parts in the space of 24 hours. What a cluster...
metzelaars_lives Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Good thing marrone is likely headed to an organization that totally has its act together in the jets.
YoloinOhio Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) Good thing marrone is likely headed to an organization that totally has its act together in the jets. also interviewing with Bears, team with worst defense in the league. Now that would be a bad match. Edited January 1, 2015 by YoloinOhio
TheFunPolice Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 What really happened? A 15-17 coach quit because he thinks he is the 2nd coming of Lombardi and ought to be able to dictate terms. They tried to lure Polian out of retirement but he's happy at ESPN and doing his Sirius NFL show
Kelly the Dog Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Marrone had a contract where he reported directly to ownership, which was Ralph (but was really Russ) Therefore, Marrone reported to Russ, the guy who loved him and worshipped him. Then Terry came in and that dynamic changed obviously since "ownership" meant the actual owner now. Whaley was not Marrone's boss. Well, GMs hire and fire head coaches. The GM at the time hired Marrone. So Whaley actually is Marrone's boss. Marrone, because he doesn't like Whaley, went over his head and directly to the owner.
mead107 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Tim gets this story first? No one at espn gets it that works there with him. Have to call bull on it
Buffalo Barbarian Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 If true, that is just unreal. @ByTimGraham:Well-placed source: Polian's decision on Bills shifted in past day. Major factor in change of heart was talking to Marrone, who ripped org. @ByTimGraham: Everything was lined up for Polian to return to Bills just 24 hours ago. But he is a big fan of Marrone's and trusts his opinion. I guess polian isn't that smart. How can Marrone rip the organization when the Pegulas just took over? It can only get better from here .... right So much for changing the culture, the culture beat Marrone, plus you have to wonder if this is a statement of trust in EJ by Marrone... Bottomline, Pegula needs to do an exit interview with Marrone and fire all the lifers from the organisation, instantly. pretty much, time to clean house
harv shitz Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Pegula has a vision to turn this franchise around. If it means costing us a mediocre quitter in Marrone and a guy, by some accounts has had the game pass him by, so be it. This also means that Polian's idiot son comes nowhere near this franchise too. I have to agree. The only reason Marrone got this job, is because Brandon and Nix couldn't get anyone better. As for Polian, as much respect as I have for him, I'd rather see someone younger, with fresh ideas, get the job. How long would a 72 year old guy stay with the job, anyway?

That happened when the Bills had to settle for Chan Gailey. But Marrone was the first coaching hire of 2013, not the last.
BaaadThingsMan Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Things will shake out over the next several weeks. Too soon to believe every tweet. I Billieve in Pegs and I know the team will emerge better off when all the moves are made, or not made if that's the case.
YoloinOhio Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 That happened when the Bills had to settle for Chan Gailey. But Marrone was the first coaching hire of 2013, not the last. was he their first call as well?
Bleed Bills Blue Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I Billieve in Pegs and I know the team will emerge better off when all the moves are made, or not made if that's the case. Absolutely. A building is only as good as the foundation on which it rests. Let's build an organization that will be top notch for the long haul.
Bronc24 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Why wouldn't Marrone want to portray a dysfunctional Bills'team, especially if he coaches the Jets? The worse it sounds...the fewer quality candidates.
timtebow15 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 It all depends what happens from here. There is too much dysfunction - I agree a fresh start is needed at this point. We need a really good President and GM combination and I'd go with Schwartz as head coach if he can get a really good OC in here and keep the defense playing great. I think he's learned from his first head coaching role.
machine gun kelly Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Bronc - well said. Marrone has his motivations which are self serving, and so do the Bills. The sky is not falling, and what all,of us hate to do is sit back, and wait and see. Why go bananas on things you can't change, when it's possible we are in a better situation next year. Just to remind everyone, Schwartz hasn't quit, our defense was 4th, and in advanced statistics, close to #1. We have holes, but we also have money to spend. As Rodgers said "relax". We'll know in a month or so. Time to enjoy, the playoff games if you love football, and worry about the Bills next month. Whether you worry or not will not change you won't have an answer for awhile.
May Day 10 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I'm disappointed that a new team president wasn't introduced monday. Would have been a prime opportunity to be proactive and build the football program correctly from the top down. New president could have been proactive on marrone and if he wasn't his guy he would be here for the coach and gm search. IF I had to bet. We won't see any big changed happen. Schwartz will be slid over to hc and we can buckle up for the next round of failure. Schwartz will get fired or quit... and all this organizatons problems at the tice will be pinned on him, and we will enter yet another round of fail.
BringBackFergy Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Madrone showing his true colors. He's a whiny B word and a cancer. This won't sit well with prospective teams. Terry Pegula issued a very cordial statement we appreciated his efforts...and this is how Marrone says thanks for $4 million?? By shitting on the organization. Thanks Doug. You're a cancer.
