WGR-550 just played some audio from the post-game locker room in New England.

Kyle Williams was speaking to the entire room saying that we didn't get to where we were going (no playoffs) but that we were finishing with a winning record, and that is something to build on.

They then gave a game ball to Marrone for finishing with the first winning record since 2004.

Marrone responded by saying "It's all about the Bills Family. Family on 3. 1, 2, 3..... FAMILY!".

This rings hollow in light of recent events.

That's why players like Aaron Williams are pissed at Marrone

They call it a 'family' and I'm sure for some it is. When it comes down to it, I'd rather have a guy who means it and stick to his guys instead of saving face and quitting

For the Bills that went to the 4 Superbowls, it really was family. Thurman Thomas has mentioned all the time how he is "Uncle Thurman" to a ton of his teammates' children...and when Kent Hull died a few years ago, they all went to the funeral in tears, like a member of their family had died.

It is that tightness that allowed them to get to 4 Superbowls in a row.

If Marrone is this type of guy, I'm very glad he is gone now, relatively quickly into the Pegula era.

It will save us time in the long run getting to where we want to go.

Marrone calling it a Bills "family" is like the proctologist putting their finger in your butt and saying it might "pinch" a little. No matter what words you use, the actions speak much louder than words. I rooted for Marrone, and now will root against him forever. Just being truthful.

he probably thought he was going to be here, but when Orton retired he knew he was screwed at QB and figured he better leave wihile he was on top then have losing record next yr and get fired.

Still a puss for leaving though.

All the while trying to gauge interest with the Jets and their stable of franchise QBs?

Pirates 1979 baby!

Seriously, this is being taken WAY too far. Parsing quotes and statements makes little sense in these situations, IMO. That his players are pissed, lends credence to the argument they really liked and respected Marrone. But I doubt even he knew he would be leaving when he made these comments. Sometimes these situations just snowball. I have to believe some of you have never been in contract negotiations. Things can go sideways quickly. Trust me.

You've missed the point of my original post completely. Not surprising.

Im not exactly sad Marrone is not returning ...but think for a minute as coach. Where would you go with this team....you have EJ and no other QB...and a 1 year contract that is basically make or break win or your gone. I'd want an extention as we move forward with EJ as well - any coach would honestly and I think we all know it

If thats all the confidence he has in his coaching ability, then good riddence.

He's been planning this since Pegula came on the field with his family and dog in Bills #1 jerseys.

To be honest, if it was all about job security, then forget Marrone. I'm fine with asking for an extension, but don't quit if you don't get it. If he had issues with Whaley and what players he was bringing in, then I would understand him leaving.

Leaving before you finish a job because the situation isn't ideal is a total B word move. If you leave because of creative differences, that's more acceptable for me, but I still don't like it.

Sure.

Marrone may well have thought he would be with the team when he made those comments in Foxborough, but that is not the point. The point is that he did not work with the "family" to help it reach a new level once the season ended. Rather, he acted as an individual. When threatened through fear of the unknown, he acted as an individual and left.

That's not a great family leader. It is starting to sound like this all comes from a fear of the "czar" coming in, perhaps in the form of Bill Polian.

Marrone wanted more certainty about things and so he tried to get a contract extension, being unsure how the chemistry would play out with the mystery czar. It also sounds like he was some type of power hungry control freak, which given his lack of IQ, is frightening. See Von Moltke's officer matrix.

Pegula wisely did not grant the extension request, b/c he is not so sure he wants to keep Marrone around longer than his current term, if even that long.

So Marrone split.

He has operated as an individual to the detriment of the organization throughout.

Darcy Regier was precisely the same for the last few years of his reign with the Sabres.

Get this clown out of town.

And that's precisely what Pegula did! In both instances.

I have been telling everyone on this forum for a while now that it is going to get a lot better now that ownership has changed.

You are starting to see that promise come to fruition.

Regardless, TP has to get a plan and get in motion fast. The optics can look bad and look bad in a hurry. We have players to resign and they need to see some stability. I do feel bad for the players who may have to start all over again with new coaches. Gets old.

Sure.

Actually it was more directed at posts like Luxy312's and many on the forum.

But I think your take on what went down, and how the business side of the NFL really works is a bit skewed. I don't think Marrone quit because he wasn't extended. I believe it was likely because he wouldn't fire Hackett and the offensive staff and didn't like the level of control he had over personnel. Plus, I think he sees other opprotunities and figured his stock was pretty high now (plus he is getting paid). Making business decisions personal is something fans love to do. But it really is business.
