G-Daddy Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 @ChrisTrapasso: Greg Roman wasn't popular in SF this year. But his exp. with athletic QB & especially his power running offense makes him logical for #Bills Hopefully a strong run game will help open up Sammy et al. Question is, will EJ progress in 2015 or will we bring in a free agent QB, and if so, who? Another interesting off season for the Bills.
atlbillsfan1975 Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 This might be just as important as the head coach hire. Doesn't seem like he was well thought of in San Fran. http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/179586-greg-roman-coordinator-hire/page295/ I am not sure how i feel about this hire if it happens. I would prefer a proven OC with HC experience. I think this would help REX be a success. The OC with HC experience is key because he understands the job of HC. Imagine what we had this year in reverse. BUT the HC could actually coach his side of the ball!
EmotionallyUnstable Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 The 49ers fans have displaced anger over that high priced QB that wants to run more then he should, and can't settle down to be a pocket QB. Granted the offense wasn't all that good this year, and I can only think Kaepernick was more the problem then anything else as he regressed trying to throw from the pocket. With Greg Roman as OC the 49ers ran the ball more then they threw it his entire time in SF, and that's with Alex Smith at QB. . He built a solid ground game with Frank Gore. in 2014 SF was the #4 rushing team In 2013 SF was the #3 rushing team in 2012 SF was the #4 rushing team in 2011 SF was the #8 rushing team. Time will tell if this was a smart move, and we should know quickly in the 2015 season. Any chance this helps bring in Iupati as a FA?
hondo in seattle Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Let me jump on the bandwagon noting how unloved Roman is in the Bay Area where they're surprised Roman's getting HC and OC consideration. http://www.sfgate.com/49ers/article/Go-figure-49ers-Roman-hot-candidate-5997808.php GM Trent Baalke's daughter tweeted this about Roman after the 9ers lost to Seattle 19-3 on Thanksgiving, “The 49ers don’t want you no more.” As a curious counterpoint to the stats FeartheLosing shared, in 2014 SF was the #30 passing team in 2013 SF was the #30 passing team in 2012 SF was the #23 passing team in 2011 SF was the #29 passing team
YoloinOhio Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 There is much more to the story of the 2014 SF offense than what the SF message boarders think. Time will tell on Roman, but Rex chose him over Trestman. And Roman had that offense to three straight NFC championship games and a SB. Worked under Harbaugh since Stanford. Kap is not accurate. This is why they didn't pass. Seattle also at the bottom.
Doc Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Plays ran from Roman to Kaep through Harbaugh. No doubt he changed things like Marrone did. I'm willing to wait and see. I like the running game part though.

YoloinOhio Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 @ChrisTrapasso: From 2011 - 2013, the 49ers were best team in NFL at closing games with punishing power running. In 2014, with OL injuries, SF didn't close. @ChrisTrapasso: Mr. @DylanMacNamara provides the inside scoop on #49ers OC and #Bills HC candidate Greg Roman ---> http://t.co/o5UX8Lrkwh#BillsMafia
EmotionallyUnstable Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Frank Gore = Fred Jackson Carlos Hyde = ?
CodeMonkey Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 How is this guy with training QBs is the biggest question IMO. Whoever the OC is, that's more than likely going to define how far the Bills go for the next few seasons. It's a pretty sure bet Rex won't be doing that.
dave mcbride Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) Football outsiders rankings of Niners offense the past four seasons: 2011 - 18 2012 - 5 2013 - 8 2014 - 16 Basically, above average (on average) but not elite. Certainly solid though. They were 24th the year before Roman arrived. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamoff Edited January 11, 2015 by dave mcbride

I'm thinking all those running QB's are no longer doing as well as they did in their first few years, except Russell Wilson. It will be interesting this year, and all I can say is I'm happy as hell that Hackett is history He needs to go back to the college game where be belongs.
YoloinOhio Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) Frank Gore = Fred Jackson Carlos Hyde = ? Hyde is a top notch lead blocker. A RB from a college offense with a running QB would be great. Edited January 11, 2015 by YoloinOhio

Coach Tuesday Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Roman had an oline riddled with injuries last year, and his head coach had checked out by October. I can't really fault him for the way things went down. He is light years better than Nate Hackett.
