Max997 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Joe B. from WGR: Can EJ lead this team to the playoffs and if so, why? Marrone: accuracy is better, decision making is better based on performance in practice against our own D. Marrone: But you have to be able to do that in a real game against opposition. Even more reason to start EJ vs the Pats to see if he is any better in a game setting. The opportunity was there but this staff just doesn't have a clue
Fadingpain Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Down and distance/4th down calculations are part of analytics but there is way more you can do with it. (Says Marrone)
RyanC883 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Hackett should have been canned today. WTF is going on over there. Is Marrone being stubborn, then fire him. Conversation should be: Marrone, fire Hackett. If the answer is no, then Marrone should be gone as well.
Fadingpain Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 These things are a waste of time. They're not going to say anything . Yeah that's true.
DrDawkinstein Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 These things are a waste of time. They're not going to say anything . Agreed. Yet, fans will take one simple word in a sentence and use it to draw a number of ridiculous conclusions. It's good for the message board industry, thats about it.
RyanC883 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 marrone seems confident whaley nervous Marrone is a pompous d-bag. That's why he seems confident. I would love to see his smug a** gone. And I'm an SU grad and supported him at the beginning. But if your going to be such a smug jerk, be consistent about it and actually win something.
Fadingpain Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Even more reason to start EJ vs the Pats to see if he is any better in a game setting. The opportunity was there but this staff just doesn't have a clue Unless they have already decided they are done with EJ.
Dirtbag Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Question: how did the analytics dept help this year? whaley: thats proprietary that part was particularly painful. whaley sounded like he had no idea what analytics can be used for. then marrone gave a speech about how much he uses analytics, and how they will do analytics-related stuff in the future that no one has even considered.
BackInDaDay Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Look at first drive yesterday; we were calling same plays but were efficient and went down field and could score. 2nd half didn't make many adjustments; doing same things; didn't get same results. that's the offensive genius i've come to love!
Fadingpain Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Whaley on Mike Williams: We were looking for a guy to come in and help us. It didn't work out the way we wanted, but we will always do research to get good players. Why didn't it work out? B/C Woods and Sammy stepped up and Chris Hogan was better option at slot. People got better, not to do with Mike and his performance; he just got beat out by the other receivers on the team.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Question: how did the analytics dept help this year? whaley: thats proprietary GREAT answer.
Fadingpain Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Marrone: Easier for OL to move inside out, not outside in. He's talking about Kouandjio. We have to look to see where to move guys around.
Tyrod's Tailor Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Marrone: Easier for OL to move inside out, not outside in. He's talking about Kouandjio. We have to look to see where to move guys around. Why don't they move him to the unemployment line?
Fadingpain Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 that's the offensive genius i've come to love! Marrone said no need to make a ton of adjustments for second half b/c defensive coverages from NE were basically the same. LOL. NE basically just trying to get that puppy in the garage with no major injuries.
BackInDaDay Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Down and distance/4th down calculations are part of analytics but there is way more you can do with it. (Says Marrone) what teams do in particular 'down and distance' situations have been called 'tendencies' since introduced to the league by the Cowboys GM Gil Brandt back in the late 60's 4th down risk / reward calcs - like 2 point conversion calcs - can probably be downloaded from the internet.
PastaJoe Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Whaley on Mike Williams: We were looking for a guy to come in and help us. People got better, not to do with Mike and his performance; he just got beat out by the other receivers on the team. His specialty was supposed to be jump balls in the end zone. They struggled in the red zone. Marrone was just stubborn to not use him.
papazoid Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 schopp says marrone is unlistenable....(hilarious)
thebandit27 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Marrone: Easier for OL to move inside out, not outside in. He's talking about Kouandjio. We have to look to see where to move guys around. He's right IMO. Moving a tackle to guard limits his space and shortens his reaction time. It also exposes a "prototype" OT build (long, lean) to the rigors of having to face lower, stouter DTs.
