November 5, 2000. Back then:

The World Trade Center was still standing. We could board airplanes without taking off our shoes. The IRA was still fighting Britain. Slobodan Milosevic was free.

There was still a space shuttle "Columbia." The space station Mir was still in service. The Concorde was still flying. We were still receiving data from Pioneer 10.

The top TV shows included: Friends, Frazier, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, Just Shoot Me, ER, and Everybody Loves Raymond. Casey Kasem was hosting "American Top 40."

The US president was Bill Clinton.

John Ritter, Michael Jackson, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, Yasser Arafat, Karol Wojtyla (Pope John Paul II), Dale Earnhardt, and Chandra Levy (who no one had ever heard of) were still alive.

Firefox, Facebook, GMail, Skype, YouTube, Twitter, and Wikipedia didn't exist. Neither did the iPhone, tablets, or iTunes.

Montgomery Ward, Oldsmobile, Enron, TWA, Chrysler, and Polaroid were still in business. Bill Gates was still chairman of Microsoft. The original Volkswagon Beetle was still in production.

Ray Borque, Jerry Rice, and Greg Maddux were still playing. Scotty Bowman was still coaching. Paul Tagliabue was NFL commissioner. The Red Sox hadn't won a World Series in 82 years.

No one had ever heard of a "hanging chad," a "wardrobe malfunction," or the "tuck rule,"

Wow, that puts the length of time in perspective!

Meaning that this win in foxboro shouldn't be considered a real win. If the Pats needed the game we would have won it going away

I don't think you know what "real" means. The NFL website seems to believe that the Bills won today.

Shut up. Billy boy went for it on fourth down when the game was still competitive which tells me all I need to know - he wanted to win. When his QB took a few decent licks he re-evaluated what was at stake and put in the rook after half time. He still played to win, like always, just the production didn't equate to that come the end of 60 minutes. Back to the cave with you. Toodles!
