Big fan of this concert. Was too young to go but have watched several versions of the movie and read all sorts of things so here goes.

1. Richie Havens

2. Canned Heat

3. Sha Na Na (too fun and just didn't fit so why not)

4. Jefferson Airplane

5. Santana (Carlos tripping his balls off)

Honorable mention: The Who

Jimi was hard to leave off because...well because he was Jimi but it was so depressing because it was the end of the show and the place was a mess.

I picked ones I heard of and preferred over the rest. I have heard Mountain and like them. CSN+Y, Hendrix, The Who, Jefferson Airplane.

Hackett uses logic exactly like this when deciding which play to call next.

I was not there and have not seen the whole concert (by a long shot). Based on my recollection I came up with four I think stand at the top, and picked a fifth---though there could be several artists to make it into the list:

Santana

Hendrix

Sly

The Band

And I gave the final spot to CSN

It was hard for me to exclude Richie Havens and Blood Sweat and Tears. Ravi Shankar certainly deserves consideration, if you can handle more that 5 minutes of his music. I admit I have a hard time with it.

I just noticed, the recently deceased Joe Cocker isn't included in the poll. I could swear he played at Woodstock and was terrific. Am I confused (or more confused than usual)?

Crap, that was what prompted the poll. (epic fail)

Sly

Santana

Jimi

CSNY

Joe

Being a major Deadhead, I hate to leave them off the list but it wasn't their weekend. Sly hit his musical peak in one glorious night for the world to see. A performance of a lifetime. Santana just crushed it. Great story about how Carlos took some Mescaline and as it took hold, they told him it was showtime. "What? we don't go on for hours" he said (they were originally slotted later) "Well then", he was told "You go now or not at all." "Ummm...ok" lol.

This is VERY difficult.

Richie Havens

Janis Joplin

CSN

Who

Hendrix

Hon. Mention: Canned Heat, Santana, Sly

Astounding to think how much talent was assembled for that show.

The stories regarding some of the talent that didn't show is pretty interesting. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Bob Dylan, The Stones. All invited but for reasons didn't show up.
