He had scholarship offers from national champion Southern California, Miami, Florida and just about everyone else. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound speedster is the defending state champion in the 110-meter high hurdles (Division II). That's one reason Rivals.com had Lobdell ranked as the No. 18 receiver in the country and the only four-star recruit in Syracuse's class. Williams, who is smaller at 5-11, 180 pounds, was the more productive receiver in high school. He owns five state records, including single-season marks for catches (103), yards (1,546) and touchdowns (24). Casamento was never bashful about saying Williams was a better player than Lobdell. Yet Williams' offers were more limited. Both players emphasized that Robinson's hire changed their thoughts about Syracuse. "He's one of the best people I know," Williams said. "He's so energetic and looks like he's a live wire. Williams said former SU coach Paul Pasqualoni never recruited him and that he was leaning heavily toward Rutgers before Robinson called.
