Since I'd expect to be picking in the high 20s after next season with Kap as QB, I wouldn't mind trading our 2016 1st round pick for him.

SF is currently set to pick 14th with him. Edited by Maddog69

If the Bills are thinking bold move, you have to look at the QBs who have big bonus and salary guarantees that kick in at the end of this year or during this offseason. Interestingly enough the biggest savings would be if the Patriots got rid of Brady at the end of this season. Otherwise his 2015-17 salaries of $24 million are guaranteed. As crazy as that sounds, it's a total Bellichick move.

The Bears can save $10 million by getting rid of Cutler before March

Ravens can save $7 by dropping Flacco right after the season ends

Arizona can save $10.5 million by getting rid of Palmer before February

The Niners can save $12.4 million by getting rid of Kap before April

Dropping Dalton before March saves Cinci $4 million

Panthers can save $14.5 mill by getting rid of Cam Newton before March

cutlers cap hit for 2015 is $16.5 mil

cutlers DEAD MONEY if cut before 2015 is $19.5 mil

that's not saving money, it's cheaper to keep him

joe flaccos cap hit for 2015 is $14.5 mil

his DEAD MONEY is $36.4

thats not saving money....it's cheaper to keep him.

You're comparing a single year salary to an entire contract's cap hit. That doesn't really make sense.

If a team knows they don't want to use a particular QB going forward, they're either stuck paying his salary or taking the dead money hit. Trading these players away before bonus and salary guarantees kick in would SAVE them money.

That would be cool if you could lease a QB for a few years. We could lease Matty Ice to the end of the current window of our D line then ship him back to Atlanta after they have filled out their roster with a bunch of high picks made higher by not having Matty.

Is there a clause with this lease? Do we get stuck with him if he's hurt ? This 2 year matty ice lease sounds great.

It's simply a matter of who is available. The rest of the roster is serviceable-to-excellent, so it's not like we need to go out and look for a ton of positional upgrades. I fully expect them to spend pretty much all of their time and resources trying to grab the best QB possible.

With most important players still under contract, some big cap hits coming off the books next season, and plenty of money to sign the few FAs we want back, we should have plenty of money and cap space to grab whoever we can steal.

I honestly wouldn't care if they packaged all of our remaining 2015 draft picks and some 2016 draft picks in a trade to grab a good QB from another team. We have plenty of young and talented players playing and developing right now. We can forgo adding more to get a QB that will take us into the playoffs NOW.

The offensive line is neither serviceable nor excellent. We have two guys who are barely average in Wood and Glenn, the rest are significantly below average. I watched the all 22 today and was struck and how consistently the pocket was collapsing on Orton before the WR's could get far enough in to their routes to turn and look for the ball. As a rookie, Henderson may get better but the guards are awful.

If the Bills had their current team in 2012 and Peyton Manning was released by the Colts and shopping around for a team, I have to believe he would have seriously considered the Bills. Maybe that's what we hope for. It won't be as good a QB as Peyton but if a quality veteran is released for whatever reason (Eli?) and has his pick of teams, the Bills will definitely be in the running to secure his services.

Polian had nothing to do with drafting Jim Kelly. In fact, if you remember an ESPN special a few months ago about the '83 draft, the Bills front office came off as absolute idiots. They had the #12 and #14 picks and liked both Marino and Kelly. So instead of making a determination which one was better or which was more likely to sign with Buffalo (hello - both Kelly and Marino were Pittsburgh guys. Marino went to Pitt, Kelly to Miami. Again, hello!!) they figured one or the other would be there at #14 and picked Tony Hunter at #12. Morons.

And the highest draft pick spent on a tight end since then was a 3rd rounder on Kevin Everett, which led me to wonder if Ralph decided they would never spend a high pick on a tight end again. (Torrell Troup over Gronk?)

If the Bills somehow got Brady I'd stop watching football until he retired.

this is the most ridiculous post i've ever read on tbd. and, yes, i'm including some of the hideous assertions i've come across over on the ppp board.

cutlers DEAD MONEY in 2016 is $3 mil, in 2017 it's $2 mil and in 2018 it's $1 mil.

your statement "The Bears can save $10 million by getting rid of Cutler before March" is false.

there is no savings in cutting jay cutler until 2016.

Living in Charlotte for 18 years, I can tell you there is a large group of conspiracy theorists who feel the GM Gettlemen has purposely tried hamstringing Newton because he doesn't like him. There is also a descent sized contingent of fans/sports media locals who aren't sold on him. If the Bills had Newton on this team, they would be instant SB contenders. He needs to be in a passing Offense where they just let him rip it. Not a lot of designed runs, though. The option stuff is slowly killing him. In summary, if we got Newton, I would be in the bathroom for a while and I wouldn't be combing my hair Mom. :) !!!!!!!
