26CornerBlitz Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Here's SI's Andy Benoit with a very long and detailed breakdown of Packers vs. Bills film with lots of great analysis and insight: @Andy_Benoit Film: # Packers played 3 WR on about 90% of snaps. Film: #Packers ran left with Lacy first 3 plays. 13 total yards. #Packers #Bills Film: BUF on 3rd-long second series man-free Fire-X zone blitz. Rodgers incomplete to X-iso Nelson. #Packers Film: Rodgers was inaccurate on his first four throws to the sidelines, left and right. #Packers Film: Make that Rodgers inaccurate on his first 5 throws to the sidelines, left and right. #Bills man coverage. #Bills Film: Gilmore thrown at often in first quarter, several incompletions through tight coverage at RCB. #Packers Film: Rodgers consistently did not set his feet on throws….but that’s not uncommon for him. #Packers Film: Typically, Rodgers is one of the VERY FEW quarterbacks whose talent can overcome unconventional/poor mechanics. #Packers #Bills Film: All three of Lacy’s 10+ yd runs in first quarter were behind good 1 on 1 man-blocking vs. 7-man or lighter box. tweeting as I go on this film, Lacy just had a fourth 10+ yd run in 1st qtr. Analysis to follow. #Packers #Bills Film: Lacy 22 yds, was zone lead to the right, Rodgers presnap adjustment. Lang tremendous job playside vs. Corbin Bryant. #Packers Film: Cobb near-TD came out of “20” personnel, with FB Kuhn split out wide. Even though man coverage, #Bills kept Gilmore there.... cont....Rodgers attacked trips side, Cobb “2” slot. Two plays earlier same equation, Nelson 6 yds from “1” slot. Film: #Bills man coverage concepts on almost every snap. Film: #Packers went back to “20 personnel” on drive following TD drive. Had some success, ended in blocked FG. #Bills #Packers Film: Gilmore didn’t catch a very near pick-six on smoke screen Rodgers put too far out in front of Nelson. Film: #Bills secondary, not their front 4, was driving force in this game. That’s been the case several times this year. #Packers Film: Rodgers was not sharp, missed a number of throws. Poorest game he’s had in a very long time. Film: #Packers ton of isolation routes, their receivers did not win consistently (though several times they got open enough, QB inaccurate). Film: #Packers opened half with 6 OL personnel (uncommon for them). #Bills played base 4-3.... cont....Rodgers hit Cobb for easy slant from slot vs. soft man coverage from Aaron Williams. #Packers #Bills Film: next play, 6 OL, this time Bills went nickel, Lacy ran for 9 yds. Film: #Packers have had success with these sorts of personnel wars all year. Vikings game on Thur. night had some examples. #Packers Film: Lacy had success running behind Bakhtiari, Sitton and Lang on the move. #Bills #Packers Film: Rambo INT from single-high safety, great job reading QB and undercutting deep crosser. #Bills #Packers Film: Also on Rambo INT, Graham blew coverage on other side, played Cover 2 when it was Cover 3. .... ...so on that Rambo INT, Rodgers did not see Nelson for would-be TD. Instead he stared down route, which you can’t do vs. single-high. #Packers #Bills Film: Nelson dropped would-be 95-yd TD, ran by Graham easily. Rambo misplayed Quarters cover reacting to Rodgers pump fake. Film: #Bills more pressure concepts than usual, including Fire-X blitzes. Rodgers often got ball out quickly. #Packers Film: Quarless multiple snaps as X-iso, Rodgers 0/2 targeting him there, #Bills variety of different defenders on him 1 on 1 there. Film: #Packers OL played well in pass pro, mostly kept a great #Bills DL at bay. #Packers Film: Cobb no backfield contribution until early 4th. Surprising given #Bills high volume of man and Cobb's success here vs NE man. #Packers #Bills film: Cobb from backfield runs of 12, 3 and pass 14 yds, all in row. Pass he motioned to slot, jerk route vs. LB Bradham. #Packers #Bills Film: Cobb backfield entire late 3rd/early 4th drive, 1 TE 4 WR, Bills in nickel, so LB forced to cover WR Cobb. #Packers #Bills Film: on Rambo 2nd INT off tip, Bills subbed to a “7 DB” package following incompletion, that took care of the Cobb... cont.... backfield mismatch issue. 3rd-3, surprised Rodgers did not check to a run vs. that look, it was also 4-down territory. Film: #Packers again Cobb backfield package, this time #Bills went dime with Preston only LB on field. Preston being Preston Brown, of course. (We're on a first name basis, you know....) Film: #Bills twists and stunts along DL, #Packers OL good job against it overall. #Bills #Packers Film: game-sealing safety came from Mario Williams sack-fumble beating Bulaga. Williams had an active game. Film: final assessment: 50% bad #Packers, 50% good #Bills. correction: (and #Packers and #Bills fans who watched game already know this) Mario beat Tretter, not Bulaga (he'd left). My oversight. Film: Matthews played OLB in base 3-4, tells you #Packers coaches are happy with Barrington at ILB. Film: #Packers had a 3-2 dime package with Hayward in slot. #Packers #Bills Film: Guion stood out at nose shade early on, physically stronger than Eric Wood. #Bills #Packers Film: Watkins 28 yds tight split fly route with continuous outside stem, good 1 on 1 coverage by Shields, beautiful catch. Film: #Packers good job defending #Bills staple Fred Jackson screens. #Packers Film: Boyd drawn hold followed by stuff of Jackson draw in red zone to help force FG. #Packers Film: Barrington stood out. Quickness, speed, play recognition. #Packers #Bills Film: Tramon Williams INT was perfect man-to-man coverage along boundary vs. Watkins. Orton underthrow and put ball inside. #Bills #Packers Film 2nd half: Bills clearly wanted to establish straightforward ground game coming out after halftime. #Bills Film: Orton threw behind a wide open Woods on shallow cross 3rd-5 to end a drive that had been all runs. Basic throw. Film: #Packers too many missed tackles, mainly vs. Jackson. #Bills #Packers Film: Bryce Brown 40 yds coverage bust. Shields thought Clinton-Dix was replacing him on CB blitz, Clinton-Dix took the slot no way to know whose fault it was without knowing the coverage call. Multiple guys not on same page. #Bills Film: on that coverage bust, if Orton had thrown ball out in front, Brown could have scored. #Bills Film: Orton did not throw the ball well. Placement off on several critical throws. #Packers Film: Matthews sack was a green dog as part of a man-free blitz involving OLB and slot CB. Good design. #Bills #Packers Film: Jackson 20 yd screen Woods’s route ran him right into LB Matthews, who had Jackson in man coverage.... cont... Woods great job stopping his route to make it not OPI. #Bills Film: Jackson ran with vision and patience against a lot of heavy fronts and behind so-so blocking.
