Cousins sucked and was replaced by Colt McCoy.

No velocity on intermediate passes. Easy Int's. Think he had a 5 int game iirc.

I think Gruden is a loose cannon. Didn't Cousins play really well the year prior? So one good year, one bad?

He had a 4 TD 4 INT game I think.

Na just looked it up. It was a prime time game vs the lowly Giants defense.

1 td 4 ints, beginning of the end for him.

I remember that game. He was literally just chucking the ball up and praying. Sucks that it was on MNF I think.

I felt bad for him. I never thought he should have been crowned as this great QB in waiting but I think he does still have potential.

Agree. His bombs to Desean Jackson look picture perfect, but his midrange game looks like crap.

If he can bring up his velocity a little he could be great.

Correct answer is Tyrod Taylor.

Unrestricted free agent - 4-year backup to Flacco who has never really had a chance to start.

Quite possible he is the next Russell Wilson. Was better than RW and EJ/Ponder in the same league (ACC) in college.

Faster and as good an arm than RW. Drafted in the 6th rd because he's 'only' 6 1.

Kids a born winner.

I liked Cousins coming out of college and I still do. JOHN Gruden gave him very high marks during his pre-draft quarterback conversations on ESPN. I'm a Tuel man, but Cousins > Tuel, so if he's available, we should take a look.

In general, this board is way too quick to trash QB's. Guys like Luck and Peyton Manning are one in a million. Nearly every other QB in the league gets groomed over multiple seasons. We have people nuking EJ with "he'll never be an NFL QB, hasn't shown me anything", even though we all saw the Carolina comeback, and EJ owning the Browns before the injury. EJ has shown potential, but Maroon pulled the plug on him in order to save his own lyin', carpetbaggin', take the $4M and runnin' ass. Rex Ryan has shown the patience to work with a new QB and stick by him through his growing pains. Hopefully 2015 will be the year that we finally get the answer on EJ, one way or the other.

You're right, he had a 3 TD 1 INT game before that.

His deep ball is fantastic. His YPA is off the charts.

The games you cite where EJ showed his potential were 2 years ago.

If we bring him in for nothing and use him as a 3rd option behind EJ and another free agent, why not? We can't have enough QBs on the roster.

I don't see why you wouldn't rather bring in guys who can compete with the starting job instead of this ming he could be the third guy behind other bad QBs.

Bye Kirk have fun at the Jets.

With Gailey in New York one has to wonder if they push hard for Christian Ponder, who is among the UFA on my short list I like, As I think he has a low risk high reward as vibe as a starter and/or he already has a history with "mentoriing" EJ Manuel.

Doesn't matter to me Gailey will make sure any QB fails.

I started thinking about all of the starters in the league and the ones that may be available for trade, Cutler, Kaepernick, RGIII etc....

I don't really want any of them especially not Cutler or Kaepernick because both have massive contracts and are not worth paying a bunch of money to.

So I started thinking, what backup QB is out there that we can possibly get for a late round pick? has had some kind of success in the league and can "compete" for a starting job? After going roster by roster I thought Kirk Cousins is the only one that would really be worth anything. He has one year left on his rookie contract and he is only going to be getting paid $660,000 next season. Now granted, his last couple of games that he started he didn't play well, like the Giants game when he threw 4 INTs. Other than that though he has shown a little bit at least and in my opinion is the one backup in the league with at least a small upside. If we got him for a late round pick, something like a 6th or 7th rounder to come in and again "compete" for a starting job not be given a starting job, he may be worth going after. If he doesn't play well we can release him after next season with no penalty. He can't play to much worse than Orton has been playing. We do only need somewhat mediocre QB play with our defense after all.

sure why not

Of the available options, I think Ponder is worth a try.
