Tony Sparano touches on meaning of potential final home game in Oakland

The Oakland Raiders and their home crowd always have a special bond on game day. On Sunday, the feeling could be even more emotional because the team's future in Oakland is still up in the air. It is not out of the realm of possibility that Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills could be the team’s final game in Oakland.

The Raiders do not have a lease to play in Oakland beyond this season, and the team has been connected to both Los Angeles and San Antonio. Raiders owner Mark Davis is on the record as saying he wants to stay in Oakland with a new stadium, but he is open to all possibilities.

W2W4: Buffalo Bills

Here is what to watch for from the Bills' side:

1. Strength against weakness: We led off the past two weeks dissecting how the Bills' defense was meeting its opponent's strength, namely the offenses of the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers. This week, the situation is almost entirely reversed, and the Bills' defense is meeting the Raiders' main weakness -- their offense. Consider some of their league rankings:

Raiders secondary to be shorthanded

The Oakland Raiders pass defense is one of the few areas where they perform admirably ranking eighth in the league. But they could be without both starting cornerbacks in Sunday’s game against the Bills.

Starting RCB Tarell Brown is out with a foot injury and starting LCB DJ Hayden is questionable with a back injury. Hayden was limited all week in practice and is expected to be a game time decision.

Both of Oakland’s backup cornerbacks are also hurt. Brown’s backup Chimdi Chekwa is out with a hamstring injury. Only rookie T.J. Carrie is a good bet to play, but he is dealing with an ankle injury. He’s listed as probable.

All told the Raiders will go into the game two healthy corners, both of whom are third stringers.

Bills expecting physical run game from Raiders

Raiders rookie QB Derek Carr gets a lot of the pub, but Buffalo’s defenders are not going to follow the headlines. The Oakland game tape is telling them something different, and if they want to shut down the Raiders attack they’ll have to begin with the run game.

Bills will look to have a balanced attack against the Raiders. Their secondary will probably be tested early. I think the Bills like getting a lead early and forcing their opponent into passing situations. That could actually happen given Oakland's injuries. I'm thinking blowout.

1, maybe 2 third string CBs starting? This may be Jets-like territory... Edited by YoloinOhio

5 things to watch for during Bills - Raiders

By Joe Buscaglia

For the past 15 years, the feelings most have for the Buffalo Bills in their upcoming game with the Oakland Raiders, have been rare. It’s December, with a meaningful game that holds potential playoff implications, that the Bills are heavily expected to win.

The Bills need the victory to keep any hope alive that they can make it to the postseason in 2014. And the Raiders — coming off a blowout loss to Kansas City — seem to be ripe for the picking.

Can the Bills hold up on their end of the bargain? Some things to watch for during the game:

Prediction: Bills over Raiders

The Bills are big favorites in this game for good reason: Oakland just does not have a very talented roster, and the play of rookie Derek Carr doesn’t inspire much confidence. Turnovers will be the key for any potential Raiders upset, but too much is working against Oakland in this game. Mario Williams and Sammy Watkins, two of the best on Buffalo’s roster, both have the potential to star in this game because of the players that they will line up against. Due to the nature of the Bills’ offense, the game may start off closer than some would hope, but eventually, the talent of Buffalo's roster should win out.

Previewing Buffalo Bills-Oakland Raiders

Welcome to O.co Coliseum where the Buffalo Bills (8-6) meet the Oakland Raiders (2-12) at 4:25 p.m. ET (1:25 p.m. local time) Sunday.

Weather conditions: It's a damp morning here in the Bay Area, with temperatures hovering in the low 60s after some light rain last night. There is some fog and mist in the area but no significant precipitation is expected during the game. Winds are light.

Iffy field conditions: After rain the past two days, the natural grass field here doesn't appear to be in great shape. The area between the hashmarks looks to have been re-sodded, but there are bare, muddy areas elsewhere on the field. Overall, this 48-year old facility is on its last legs. There was a threat that the Raiders could pack up and move elsewhere for next season, but NFL Network reported Sunday morning that the team will announce a one-year extension on its lease.

I'm very worried about this game, we can't look past the raiders the more my friends and colleagues say it will be an easy win the more I'm concern. Buffalo needs to attack these Raiders! They are better than 2-12 indicates
