truth on hold Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) He throws a flat ball. I think this is why he can be effective on medium routes where you have to fit in traffic and don't want too much air underneath it. But on long routes where you need some more arc to get it over defenders but also drop vertically into wr's hands, his flat trajectory leads to over throws. His misses on mid routes are when the flat trajectory nose dives (think paper airplane) like the pick on attempted pass to woods yesterday. Edited December 8, 2014 by JTSP

Please fix. Thanks.
elroy16 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I noticed the same thing. I actually liked it at first, he started the season with some nice deep throws on the money. I think his throws hurt the receiver's ability to make adjustments to the ball in the air on throws that are off target. Now that he isn't throwing accurate, we aren't seeing as many deep passes completed. I think the biggest issue is with the medium and deeper throws down the sideline. For example the 4th down to chandler, the pass had no chance. He also blew a similar throw to chandler against kc in the red zone. He doesn't get enough air under to allow the receiver to make a play on the ball. That's not his biggest issue or why he isn't a good qb, but he isn't helping himself.

I wonder if it's lack of leg strength/flexibility causing him to use all arm accounting for the flat ball
bigK14094 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Well, I am always interested in listening to all this Orton talk....and, my view, is he is not as bad as many say, and not as good as some say. He threw 2 picks yesterday in must throw situations, as the ground game is non existent really. Not out of line with what happens in the pro game. He needs to do better for this poor offense to score......some of it is the scheme and the coaching. He gets his calls from the Helmet radio directly from Hackett. I have not noted a lot of noticable audibles.....none the less, he is the only pro QB we have.....EJ and Tuel are not up to the job. So, I support picking up another strong contender....let somebody beat out Orton. Orton is not particularily athletic....he can just throw, and read defenses. He is a journeyman, not a franchise QB ala Brees Brady etc. But, we have no others that are even journeyman.....that needs to get fixed...and, it might end up being.....another journeyman as they are what is usually available on the free agent market. BTW, did you see that Thad Lewis now backup for Fitz in Houston?

BADOLBILZ Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I wonder if it's lack of leg strength/flexibility causing him to use all arm accounting for the flat ball I believe you are correct. His flat-footedness is stunning for a 31 year old man.....athlete or not.

Almost like a birth defect. I'm not a big personal trainer advocate, but this guy could use some one-on-one training to see what he can do to improve leg strength and flexibility.
Dorkington Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 EJ was strung up because he threw floaters... now KO is strung up because he throws a "flat ball". Guess we're looking for a guy that throws a... medium ball? O.o
