Gugny Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Maybe we should sign Pat McAfee from the Colts and then we could have three kickoff specialists. http://www.sportingc...f-success/2014/ I mean the onsides kick is such a vital play in the grand scheme of things, with such a high percentage of success. I doubt Marrone or any other head coach bothers to take the temperature of his kicker's confidence during the course of a game and then decides whether or not to have him attempt an onside kick or not. Marrone was just paying lip service to the whole situation. I'd rather we continue to ding him for genuinely stupid things that he says and does. This is just piling on. GO BILLS!!! My knock was purely on the kick ... not the decision as far as who would kick it. It was either horribly designed or even more horribly executed; neither of which scenarios fall on Marrone.

Marrone said Gay had a case of the nerves today. Maybe Carpenter would have increased our odds of success from 6/43 to 7/44. A veritable onside kick juggernaut! GO BILLS!!!
ExiledInIllinois Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 if I was a Carpenter and you was a lady It would be gay if you married him anyway. Even gayer if you had his baby. Surpised that nobody picked up on a truly gay song by Bobby Darin. ;-) Do we have a Miller or a Tinker on the Bills?
ICanSleepWhenI'mDead Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Maybe it's a moot point, and it might have already been discussed, but would Carpenter have done a better job with the onside kick? Anybody know how his onside kicking abilities are? Gay is the regular kick-off guy. Marrone probably figured that if he used Carpenter, the Broncos would suspect something was up, and he would have lost the element of surprise (which is crucial for recovering an onside kick).

Was there really any surprise that a team down by a touchdown with a minute to go was gonna onside kick? Unless you're being sarcastic. They need to invent a sarcasm font. BmarvB Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 In a situation like that, you go with the veteran (Carpenter).
Manther Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I don't know, but I hated the type of kick there. I think you are much better off trying to really get the ball very high in the air. It could have been, however, that the grass surface doesn't let you get the sort of bounce you need. Agreed
