26CornerBlitz Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Can Kyle Orton author upset of Packers again? Kyle Orton came into the NFL the same year Aaron Rodgers did. Though their careers haven’t followed the same path, Orton will always be remembered for the day in 2011 when he led the Chiefs to a dramatic upset of the then-undefeated Packers. Running backs ‘in tune’ with Aaron Rodgers, passing game Of the many things Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers appreciates about his position coach, the subtle reminders Alex Van Pelt gives him on gameday are at or near the top of the list. Like this past week. “We always talk before the game, and I say, ‘Hey, what’ve you got for me?’” Rodgers said on Wednesday. “He said, ‘Don’t forget about the checkdown,’ and sure enough, I hit about 10 of them during the game.” The Pill returns!

26CornerBlitz Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Week 15 Game Rankings Green Bay at Buffalo Sunday, Dec. 14, 1 p.m. ET (FOX) Why To Watch: The Packers are all about going into the playoffs with plenty of momentum, they have their sights on the top seed in the NFC and they don't seem like a team that would take anyone lightly. But they're coming off a pounding of the Falcons, which followed an emotional win over New England for regular-season NFL superiority in meaningless Power Rankings all over the country. Maybe they can rest a few veterans soon enough -- lowly Tampa Bay awaits in Week 16 and then a meeting with Detroit that could still decide the division. Green Bay is the hottest team in the league with five straight wins and still just tied with Arizona for the top seed right now, so I don't expect any let-up. The Bills, on the other hand, seem to know that it's pretty much over for them, their playoff hopes are about to be expunged and they are in a brutal stretch of games at a time. I'm not sure if they can rally late to put on a good show for the home fans, but this has been a year where teams come out of nowhere to shock someone every week, so I guess it's fair to hope. What To Watch For: The deeper we get into the season the more Kyle Orton's limitations come to the fore. The lack of mobility, the inability to really make a play when they need it, the lack of anything really dynamic in this offense is hard to miss. Clearly, the Bills are going to be major players in the quarterback market next offseason, whether free agent or draft or both, and I we'll see if Orton can show enough to remain in that equation in some capacity. Then again, maybe he might actually retire this time ... Bills pass rush hasn't been as menacing in recent weeks, and without that element they aren't nearly the same. No explosive plays out of the defense generally spells defeat, and Aaron Rodger's ridiculously quick release will do them no favors here ... Sammy Watkins had his first big game in over a month in Denver last week, but can Orton get the call to him consistently enough? ... Will the Bills keep the possibility alive of playing C.J. Spiller in Week 17, and keep giving him practice reps just in case that game ends up meaning something, or just shut him down? Another loss and there wouldn't be much to gain and the oft-injured player in an impending free agent in March ... With so much unknown about the direction of the Bills franchise, now under new ownership, and who will stay and who will go, the results against this foe could be magnified ... Don't fret about that abomination the Packers' secondary put on film in the second half Monday night. That game was over at the half, a let-up was natural to some degree and that defense knew the offense could score quickly if need be. I'm not sweating it and I bet you see a much more well-rounded outing here. Too much talent back there not to.

26CornerBlitz Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 McCarthy: We spend extra time on DBs Green Bay head coach Mike Mike McCarthy in being asked about Buffalo’s defense referenced the fact that with the Bills being a team they don’t see all that often, they have to put in some extra study time. Where most of that extra study takes place is with an opponent’s defensive backfield.

Bills defense worthy of attention It wasn’t an eye-catcher when the schedule was announced. December in Buffalo against a low-profile team lacking a star quarterback will cause the ho-hum kind of reaction that accompanied this game. Sentiments, however, have changed. All of a sudden, on the heels of a stunning performance by the Bills defense in Denver last week, this game has become somewhat of a headliner. Nobody in Packerland is going to sleep on the Bills.
