plenzmd1 Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 To K-9 and Sweet Lou, to be fair to EJ the interview you both reference was after the 4th preseason game, not a regular season effort. We went nuts not because of the outcome of the game, but that the coaches really did think his effort was good as he did not run and did. It turn the ball over....all Dougie really wanted out of him. I was a firmly in the play EJ camp, but the points made by K-9 in this thread have made me change my mind. I can see staying with Orton, but dear God let him make some plays.
BillsFan-4-Ever Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 bottom line is NO ONE knows how good or bad EJ is until they let him play 2 or 3 full games in a row. can we /thread?
RuntheDamnBall Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 You certainly may, my good man. It won't surprise you to know I've been echoing the same thought throughout this thread. This is Orton's team and he deserves the chance to ride it into the sunset. Or to gently slide it into the ground short of the runway, as the case may be. I guess like any Bills fan, I want a reason to believe. Orton provided that early on, but teams are keying in on his shortcomings. I also guess that like anyone who would like to see EJ in there, I'd like to see if he's grown. Honestly, I think the chance that he plays and succeeds is probably the only good potential outcome here. Right now he is learning from Orton, I suppose, while hearing his coach publicly voicing no confidence in him. Is that really any better for his development? On a side note, I wish Marrone would really have done the simplest thing in his responses to the media and just said Orton is our quarterback, EJ is making progress, and that's our plan for now. This "what other people think" canard / shot across the bow at Whaley is stupid, petty and could be career-damning if he isn't careful. Sometimes mundane coach-speak is the only prescription even when we hate hearing it.
GG Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 From an asset management standpoint, if Bills lose to GB it would be silly not to play EJ vs Oakland & NE.
26CornerBlitz Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 QB Index: What teams should look elsewhere in 2015? Few would have thought Washington would be in need of a starting quarterback considering where RGIII was just two seasons ago. What other teams might be in search of a new signal-caller in 2015? Desperate for a starter Buffalo Bills: The best Bills season in the last decade has been strangely frustrating. That's because Bills fans know they have the defense and skill-position talent to be a real contender. They just don't have the quarterback. Getting benched for Kyle Orton is an indictment on EJ Manuel's future. Orton is not a long-term fix, and is due $5.4 million next season. There's no telling if he'll be back.

26CornerBlitz Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Will EJ Manuel start again in 2014? By ESPN @espn
26CornerBlitz Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Six for Sunday: The late-season playoff push hits overdrive It's mid-December and as we begin Week 15, no team has clinched a playoff berth. With 11 divisional rematches on tap, that will change quickly. Will we see EJ Manuel? The Browns are putting Manziel on the field. RG3 returns to the field, as did Geno Smith and Jake Locker, even if it's for medical reasons. It is probably time to take another good look at EJ Manuel before the offseason starts. The Bills can't go into the offseason with a cloudy quarterback situation. Manuel is 24 years old with a 7-7 record and more touchdown passes than interceptions (16 to 12). The Bills are in the 11-seed spot and have a 4-6 conference record. If the Packers are dominating by halftime this week, it might be a good time to let Manuel finish the season.
tuckan Posted December 14, 2014 Author Posted December 14, 2014 Bench Orton. Start EJ. No further explanation required. I started this thread with those three sentences. Let me explain. Orton does not give us the best chance to win. He gives us the best chance to lose. We beat the Pack today despite Orton not because of Orton. EJ may not be the next coming of Montana and may not be even on this team next season but at least give him one more chance. Can he do any worse?

EJ sucked last year and this year. What magic elixir has he taken to reverse that while on the bench?
