Kelly the Dog Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 This needs its own thread IMO because it's really a strategy and preference. There is no proven right way to do it. But to me, Marrone needs a lot of credit for calling the first 2 or even three timeouts with 5-6 minutes left. I scream for teams to do this all the time and they rarely do. You gain the whole 35-40 seconds. If down by more than a TD you give your team a chance to have the two drives you need, and if things go your way a lot of time to score. I was screaming for Marrine to call timeout that early and he did and not enough coaches do. That was a very good decision by him. He should get credit for that. That said, it was infuriating that with 6-7 minutes left we were wasting 5-10 seconds every play down by 2-3 scores. That was stupid. And on both the coaches and QB. Plus Orton threw way too many 3-5 yard passes in the fourth Quarter.
Deranged Rhino Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I was more than fine with his time out usage in the second half. I think it was the best course. It was the rest of his in game decisions I question.
26CornerBlitz Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Had no problem with the strategy of timeouts at that juncture of the game.

Clock management hasn't been stellar but he got that right (though I agree there was a lack of urgency that frustrated)
TallskiWallski83 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I'll fine with using the timeouts but I disagree with using the third timeout. Assuming u pull within 1 score with two minutes left you need the last time out and the two minute warning to give yourself 80 seconds to go down the field rather than relying on an onside kick recovery
mrags Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I thought it was a horrible thing at the time. And the only thing that made it any worse was the punt on 4th and 2 after you started taking timeouts. That was essentially the game.
