rumblefish Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 low attendance, blame it on to many Yankee transplants
Kelly the Dog Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 USC usually averages about 85,000 a game. Sometimes more. Last year was an aberration because everyone seemed to hate Lane Kiffin. UCLA averages over 70,000 a game. Both usually top the Pac 12 I think although they both have huge stadiums.

That city loves their Trojans and Lakers. Boomer Esiason predicted this morning that both the Raiders and Rams would be in LA in the next couple years. I just can't see that happening.

I'm not certain about the Raiders, but I think the Rams are LA bound for sure. Their owner just bought up a ton of land in Los Angeles.

Just having a team in that market makes the TV rights more valuable.

Boomer Esiason predicted this morning that both the Raiders and Rams would be in LA in the next couple years. I just can't see that happening. It's really hard to know if the city will support them or not. The city loves the Dodgers, too. The Kings and Ducks have 95-100% capacity although their teams have been good for a few years. There are a LOT of people here. Opposing teams will get huge draws from their west coast fans coming here. Big companies will buy up a ton of tickets. Games will sell out for a few years in a new stadium just from that and people wanting to just attend a game. What the teams WON'T have is a good home field advantage. I don't see why any owner would come here just for that. Unless perhaps it's an expansion team and people that moved here take them on as their team.

Kelly the Dog Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 The league couldn't care less about stadium attendance. Just having a team in that market makes the TV rights more valuable. I don't think that's true. Most people I talk to think that the networks pay as much as they possibly can. Without LA. The local TV commercials may be more expensive but the stations or networks would get that not the NFL. Their overall ratings would go up a little because of all the people here, but I don't think it would make the TV contracts go up in any substantial way whatsoever. They don't negotiate those the same way that normal contracts are, as far as I know.
Taro T Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 The league couldn't care less about stadium attendance. Just having a team in that market makes the TV rights more valuable. If they're constantly blacking out home games that wouldn't improve the value of the TV rights. I know the FCC changed that rule, but I haven't seen the NFL modify it yet. After the novelty wears off, in stadium attendance will likely be an issue.
The Real Buffalo Joe Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 The times I have went to Miami the scalpers are practically given tickets away. One time we got 50 yard line seats 20 rows up for $20 a piece. I don't think the ticket prices are too high or at least the ones on the secondary market. A place like Miami you really got to win big to get the crowds because the weather is so nice this time of year & there is a ton of other fun stuff to do. NYC, the busiest city in the world, granted also the most populated, has legions of die hard fans for two teams.
