KD in CA
Why does the city Comptroller care who has wifi? Seems a tad outside his job spec, no?
Dante
I guess once you can justify free wifi for everyone it's pretty much game on for everything free.
DC Tom
Why does the city Comptroller care who has wifi? Seems a tad outside his job spec, no? NYC comptroller is also responsible for auditing city government management, not just budget. So, since it's deBlahDeBlah's public wi-fi plan, it's arguably within the comptroller's responsibility. And the reason it's an "issue" isn't because wi-fi is a "civil right." It's because deBlahDeBlah's public wi-fi plan discriminates against low-income boroughs. It seems a little thin to me for the Comptroller to be that worried about policy details, especially when the plan focuses wifi on the areas that will use it. It sounds more like an early campaign stop for the 2017 Democratic primary.
Keukasmallies
Seems only fair to pair free wifi w/ an Obamaphone to complement the well-outfitted urban unemployed.
Azalin
Why in hell is their government getting involved in providing wifi anyway?

Less think if you consider BlahDiBlah's wi-fi as a public utility, in which case the discriminatory management of it can fall under the comptroller's purview. But that argument runs afoul of the inherent silliness of wi-fi as a public utility. The comptroller's just the smallest figure in a whole matryoshka doll of dipshittery. There's nothing more important than ensuring that all the liberal "takers" in the world are able to use the phone they didn't pay for, over a network they get for free, to search for jobs they don't want because they're convinced they're not paid enough to do the jobs they say they could do if only the GOP didn't obstruct the president because he's colored.
