RIP Jean Beliveau

Recommended Posts

This is one subject that the NFL could take lessons from the NHL on. The NFL ceremonial tributes barely get any coverage nationally and that sucks out loud.

I still haven't seen a good video of Jim Kelly's speech/ovation on opening day

I was a huge Montreal fan when a kid. When he retired in 1971 after the last Stanley Cup game I cried my eyes out. I don't think I was really familiar with the concept of retirement then. It was a total shock. I remember my mom explaining it to me that he would never play again and I guess I took it like he was dying. I have a real nice red Montreal #4 jersey. From the Montreal Gazette Beliveau timeline.

"May 18, 1971: Plays the final game of his NHL career, a 3-2 Stanley Cup-clinching victory over Chicago in Game 7 of the final series. Béliveau’s 176 career playoff points is a Canadiens club record which still stands."
