26CornerBlitz Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Jean Beliveau, Canadiens great, dies at 83 Rare is the talent so great that a sports franchise would buy an entire league to secure his services. Jean Beliveau of the Montreal Canadiens was such a talent. Beliveau died Tuesday at the age of 83.
Canadian Bills Fan Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Anyone know what he passed away from? I know he had health issues... CBF
26CornerBlitz Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Beliveau was part of the ceremonial faceoff prior to the first regular-season home game in Buffalo Sabres franchise history. He lined up against Sabres captain Floyd Smith as owner Seymour H. Knox III dropped the puck on Oct. 15, 1970 at the Aud.

BuffaloBud Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 If you have not seen the video of the tribute the club presented last night, please do so. Make sure that you have a tissue handy. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/canadiens-say-goodbye-to-icon-jean-beliveau-in-unforgettable-pre-game-ceremony/
Alaska Darin Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 This is one subject that the NFL could take lessons from the NHL on. The NFL ceremonial tributes barely get any coverage nationally and that sucks out loud.

Dante Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I was a huge Montreal fan when a kid. When he retired in 1971 after the last Stanley Cup game I cried my eyes out. I don't think I was really familiar with the concept of retirement then. It was a total shock. I remember my mom explaining it to me that he would never play again and I guess I took it like he was dying. I have a real nice red Montreal #4 jersey. From the Montreal Gazette Beliveau timeline. "May 18, 1971: Plays the final game of his NHL career, a 3-2 Stanley Cup-clinching victory over Chicago in Game 7 of the final series. Béliveau’s 176 career playoff points is a Canadiens club record which still stands."
26CornerBlitz Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Canadiens Honor the Late Jean Beliveau (10:11) The Montreal Canadiens and the Bell Centre faithful pay tribute to the late Jean Beliveau with a video tribute and a moment of silence.
