FireChan Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 (edited) Mrs. Marrone you should really stop reading the posts on here. Your skin is thinner than your husband's. There is a 53 man roster for NFL teams. Marrone seem to put a limitation of about 40 on himself by alienating 12 and needing a kickoff specialist. Goodwin has had injury concerns since his rookie season. How many times did he get hurt last year? Why is this now an indictment on the coaching staff? You do realize Goodwin himself has been limiting the roster as well? You're championing for a guy who has the same effect that causes you to blast Marrone. Might as well argue that we fumble too much, and that's why we need to play Bryce Brown more. Edited November 29, 2014 by FireChan
Coach Tuesday Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Goodwin has had injury concerns since his rookie season. How many times did he get hurt last year? Why is this now an indictment on the coaching staff? Because not a single player on offense has improved or developed under Marrone, Goodwin included. Sooner or later you have to stop nit-picking at each and every player and start focusing on the one constant.
4merper4mer Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 (edited) Goodwin has had injury concerns since his rookie season. How many times did he get hurt last year? Why is this now an indictment on the coaching staff? When there have been 437 things pointed out about how Marrone is doing things wrong, each of them holds the possibility that it is the other person's fault. Like EJ, the ref, Stevie, Urbik, Whaley, Williams, Orton, and on and on and on. The odds are though that something has to stick on Marrone. As for your direct question: He is not hurt now. He is a weapon. He is not being used by a team desperately in need of weapons. How is that an indictment of Goodwin? Marrone is simply not an NFL caliber coach. At all. I wish he were but he isn't. Kelly the Dog Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Goodwin has had injury concerns since his rookie season. How many times did he get hurt last year? Why is this now an indictment on the coaching staff? Last week he was healthy and Marrone sat him. That is a coaching decision. People have been gaining more and more frustration with Marrone for his personnel decisions and game day active decisions. This is a little one but another in a perceived endless series. So it's a legitimate example of an indictment of the coaching staff. I'm torn on Marrone. Like all coaches, fans are either in favor, want him gone, or are on the fence/ask me at the end of the season. I like a lot of things about him but there are a few I don't like very much at all. This issue is one of three major problems I have with him myself. The other two being offensive philosophy and in game decisions. But this is a big one for me, deciding who dresses and who doesn't when players are healthy. I think it's a big part of coaching and a very big question mark for Marrone.

Kelly the Dog Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 What about Robert Woods and Chris Hogan? Woods was good when he got here. If anything he has been under utilized and stagnant even though he had his best game last week. Hogan went from being underrated to being decent to being pretty good to being overrated.

How much did our offense need Goodwin vs the Jets? Didn't we blow them out of the water? Is it possible that he's not 100%, and Marrone wanted to give him a week off, similar to CJ's deactivation last year? Goodwin can say he was good to go, but don't all competitors say that? You guys can indict Marrone on every little thing if you'd like. But it's speculation at best, and I won't formulate my opinion based on things that I have virtually no idea about outside of a few ESPN snippets. Woods was good when he got here. If anything he has been under utilized and stagnant even though he had his best game last week. Hogan went from being underrated to being decent to being pretty good to being overrated. Underutilized? He already has more catches and the same amount of TD's that he had last year. That sounds like improvement to me. Hogan couldn't stay on an NFL roster. Now, he looks like a decent player. Can't give Marrone any credit for that though. Desperate need of weapons. 38-3. Hmm.
mrags Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Oh c'mon. You said small fast guys and I listed a bunch of small fast guys off the top of my head. TY Hilton is one of the best receivers in the league and he's the same size. 5 pounds more and what, Wes Welker isn't a small guy? And again, his problem has been more of the pulled hamstring issue. I'll give you Steve Smith, because he is built very strong. I have used that same argument with Russell Wilson. He's short but he's extremely well built and strong. But TY Hilton and Welker and Edelman are small and withstand the punishment. Goodwin is built well, too. He doesn't look frail at all. And the injuries he has got have not been from big hits, except to the noggin. Welker doesn't help your argument since he's injured more than any of those players. He can't finish a season either without having 3 concussions. Edleman is no different. I don't follow Hilton but I will hold back from anointing him the next great WR I'm this league.

Now you're just talking nonsense. For the first eight years of his career as a starter, he played 16, 16, 16, 16, 14, 15, 16, 16 games. Edelmans first year as a starter he played all 16 games and all 11 this year.

FireChan Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 If only we played the Jets 16 times a year. How many other times has Goodwin been a healthy scratch this year?
mrags Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Sometimes mrags gets his tunnel vision. Calling out welker to prove Goodwin won't last is a prime example of that. im not calling out anyone. But this NFL is different than it was 8-10 years ago. Small WRs in this days NFL don't last. That doesn't argue the point that Goodwin is a waste of a roster spot becaise he can't be counted on for anything. He gets injured walking onto the field.

Wide receivers are more protected than ever today. Welker has been incredibly durable given his volume of catches over the middle. It's just an odd spot for you to make the point. I get what your arguing with Goodwin not proving to be durable and don't disagree that he needs to prove that.... But pretty much everything else you've said has been pretty extreme and good chunks of it unfounded.
PO'14 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Bye Bye Glass Goodwin. He is a track athlete. That is it, that is all folks. Get over it. He sucked in 2 years playing in Buffalo.
Buffaloed in Pa Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I said along time ago. He was like a piece of fine china. Taking up a roster spot. Now finally people see it my way. Sitting a proven vet receiver for a fragile receiver was dumb. Oh but look how fast he can run. Dime a dozen straight line speed receivers.
YoloinOhio Posted November 30, 2014 Author Posted November 30, 2014 I think both Williams and Goodwin will be active today since Gragg is out. Waiting on inactive list.

NoSaint Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Are you a Bills fan ? sainthood ? I guess mike Williams is who you were getting at.... It's bad he doesn't even come to mind immediately any more - in my head, for some reason, those two never felt like they were competing as directly for a roster spot as some of the other guys (for MW even guys at other spots)
